The Giving Tree written by Shel Silverstein was and still is, one of the most well known children's book in America. In the world we live in today, every song has a story, every picture has a feeling, and every children's book has a lesson. Children's books that people seem to enjoy today, all contain a moral at the end… the purpose the reader was introduced with a problem throughout the story. The Giving Tree has not only one meaning, but many. Although it seems like just an ordinary book for children, this book teaches things like; Focusing more on what we need than what we want, you can't outrun your problems, and sometimes the best thing we can do for loved ones is just be there. To begin with, one of the most important lessons in the …show more content…
Can you give me a boat?" They boy (now a man), wanted to go far. Far from what? Everything...everyone… all of his problems? What he tried to do was outrun his problems. He thought it would make him a happier person. “After a long time, the boy came back” says the story. In life, people will always have problems. I know the boy had problem when he left far away as well, because if he had not had any problems, he would not have come back. Some problems might not follow us around, but some do, and if not, problems always do arise. We have to learn to deal with our problems instead of running away from them. Sometimes, when we try running away from our problems, we also hurt people in the process, kind of like when the boy used the tree's trunk to make a canoe and go far way, leaving the tree as a sad, old, lonely …show more content…
Although it seems like just an ordinary book for children, this book teaches things, which is what makes it a very popular book in America that teaches love, care, thankfulness, and the act of giving, which is all we need to know to see if people will enjoy a great story like this
it is my favorite picture books for children 's because children prefer this type of books specially for the kids four years and under.
The Newbery Honor award is given to the author with the biggest contribution to American literature for children. This book was chosen as the 2015 winner along with “The Crossover” by Kwame Alexander. The National Book Award is chosen by a board of judges, this particular book beat over 294 other titles. Both of these awards lets me assume that it is going to be a very quality book, and there is a high possibility that most people will like it.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” At some point in life one is faced with a decision which will define the future, but only time will tell whether or not the choice was right or wrong. The Boat by Alistair MacLeod demonstrates that an individual should make their own decisions in life, be open to new experiences and changes, and that there is no way to obtain something, without sacrificing something else.
In life we may go through hardships that take us down a path that benefits us in the future and make us stronger individuals. These hardships can influence a person’s life by making us face obstacles we don’t want to face and
Anyone can write a book. But capturing the attention of young kids from 0-8 can prove challenging. However, some authors have written some books that are worthy of a Caldecott or Newbery Medal. Whether the book receives an award or medal the importance is a child opening up the book to discover laughter, fantasy, and truths.
has some family ties and was written with a bit more passion than the average fifth grade book.
Some people think that when you have a problem you just have to deal with it and carry it on your back until you can find a solution to it, but they are wrong. That is not the only way you can solve obstacles in your life. You can always choose to turn the bad things inside
The first and most important lesson for a grade school or middle school student to understand and appreciate is kindness. Kindness is a major theme in this book. Most of the characters give serious thought about how their actions will affect others. In this book it shows how much kindness matters. To quote the text people
It is scary when you don’t know anybody and have to try to make new friends. Many of your young childhood friends will stay with you for a lifetime. Today, I am still friends with many of my oldest friends. They have become like family. I want to say that this novel is a great way for people to see how somebody from a diverse population lives. It is a great book from the view of somebody living a completely different life than I have lived. I think it was very well written and is easy to read. This makes it a great teaching tool for children of younger age groups or college students as well. I read this entire book at one sitting because it kept my interest the entire time. I couldn’t wait to see what
I think the book appeals to everyone who has ever felt rejected, castaway, or uncertain whether their family or friends would accept them if they knew what really goes on under the surface.
People should read this book because it teaches the importance of friends and family and it teaches that everybody has personal issues to go through.
Evaluation: Although the dialect of some of the characters takes some getting use to, I enjoy this book. This is an American classic, filled with humor but critical of people who can be so civilized and so cruel at the same time. It is a boy’s adventurous coming of age that celebrates the individual spirit of America and the romantic vision of innocence and virtue in nature.
The Giving Tree is a modern children literature written by Shel Silverstein, which is also one of his first successful piece of work. It is about an apple tree who always gives and gives and a boy who always takes and takes. This might be another story to read before bed times for the kids but however, it portrays so many things, from deforestation to modern society. Personally, I believe that The Giving Tree portrays the theme of selflessness versus selfishness, like the unconditional love a parent has for his or her child.
I believe that this novel was meant to be read by people who are old enough to understand different struggles people sometimes need to endure to achieve goal. If someone were not to understand this concept then the novel would be “empty,” for them.
The sky above them is blue, not black, and healthy, green vegetation, grows around the text. This nice, naive view of religion is seen throughout the Songs of Innocence, for here in this childhood fantasy land, this never-never land, God is merciful and kind, and will free these poor children from the miserable reality of their lives.
