It's a myth about a goddess that lives in heaven. She gives 3 gourds to a messenger that has to bring them from heaven to earth without opening them. The 3 gourds were ment to be for the first women and man on earth. When the messenger was on his way he was so curious that he opened the gourds. In the frist two gourds there wasn't anything special, but in the last one deceases and negativity got out of the gourd. The messenger wanted to put the deceases and negativity back inside of the gourd, but he couldn't. When he arrived on earth, he gave the gourds and ran away as fast as he could, because he was scared that the goddess would be very mad.
Chapter nine’s main focus was on being able to identify your signature strengths. The strengths of characters talked about are how we achieve the virtues mentioned in chapter eight. The virtues include wisdom and knowledge, courage, humanity and love, justice, temperance, and transcendence. Though the strengths in which we acquire the virtues include things such as hope, social intelligence, teamwork, loyalty, curiosity, etc. The first part of the chapter goes on to explain the difference between talents and strengths. Talents are nonmoral, while strengths are moral traits. We are able to build strength and make a choice as when to use and acquire it, while a talents have a limit as to how many you can acquire and you either have it or you
Our stream of conscience contributes to our ability to speak and form language in a powerful way, which overall contributes to the ability to function successfully within a society. Many philosophers built on the philosophies of the political atmosphere, language, and the shift from literacy (recited knowledge) to oratory (agency, ability to formulate personal thoughts and opinions). Through the analysis of various philosophical works, I will provide the basic understanding of the importance of the development of rhetoric and how it’s foundation has set the precedent for the future. In this paper I intend to explore, Gorgias Encomium of Helen,
Imagine a person so hideous that when you see her, you’re turned to stone. Now imagine that this person has two sisters with the same horrendous power! The Greeks believed such a person existed and they were known as the Gorgons all throughout Ancient Greece. The daughters of Phorcys the god of seas and Ceto the goddess of sea monsters. The gorgons were know as three powerful female monsters the sisters Sthenno, Euryale, and Medusa. Of the three sisters only Medusa was mortal, and so it was her head which King Polydekts of Serphos commanded the young hero Perseus to fetch. The three sisters did not start out this way, it was a tragic event.

Throughout my exploratory essay, I found that there are many different perspectives when it comes to Greek life. I as a member of Greek life myself, feel that the positive aspects outweigh the negative. There are many positive advantages that come from being a part of Greek life. There are an abundance of networking opportunities that come from Greek life along with all of the incredible friends that you make throughout the recruitment experience. One may also gain leadership skills from being a member of the executive council and having to lead their chapter on a day to day basis. Being a member of Greek life also pushes you to be more involved on campus as well as in the community. Each Greek organization has a philanthropy that they support
In Ancient Egypt, women were able to hold power unlike many other societies at that time. It was said, “in some societies women are able to rule at times when there is no clear male heir to the throne” (192). This made it possible for women who were brought up in wealth and royalty to achieve higher powers. Women would now be able to hold prominent positions in government. Throughout the novel Daughters of Isis, by Joyce Tyldesley, women held power religiously, politically, and socially.
When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.
The small group, led by Kodor, headed on to the entrance of the network of underground tunnels in Arazi. However, instead of the long corridor that went away from the cave, and from which other tunnels set off, a tall circular dome with a single opening —the one that they were using now— welcomed them. Theo thought of Ulder, the boys and his father. Would they have turned when faced with a non-entry way, or were they already on the other side of that wall of stone?
Greek Mythology, used to explain the unknown. The Greeks never had the technology to discover why things happened the way they did. For that reason, they would believe in stories about Gods and Goddesses that determined their everyday lives. They would worship and sacrifice living beings to show their respect for the Gods. Over time, they developed the story of how the world was created, their main Gods and Goddesses, and traditions and rituals.
According to various accounts of the creation of the world. Hesoids version describes that in the beginning, there was only Erebus, or darkness, Nyx, or night, and Chaos, who has been interpreted as the opening form which the other ancient characters arose. Then appeared Gaea, or mother earth, personified as the solid foundation of the world. Next, was Tartarus who is usually confused with the residence Hades, but was depicted as the father of some of Gaea’s children. Also appearing after Chaos was Eros, the source of sexual love/attraction that brought beings together to produce more children.

"It's it obvious?" Nikki asked. "I want us to do a sexy photo shoot. It's not kinky. But I'd figure it would spice things up. Do you know how to take professional photos?"
Iris looked at me with confusion as I held the doorknob of a shabby building, daring myself to twist it. The front wall stood out suspiciously against the almost clinical utopia that surrounded it for miles and miles - you look to the right, there were rolling green hills that in the past would have been called fake, and on the left, a glistening blue sea and tall as can be skyscrapers. Ten years ago, where we just were a few minutes ago, you'd never see any of this - it was a sleepy city with not much going for it, but it's all hustle and bustle now.
