The Great Gatsby by. Scott Fitzgerald offers many types of feelings from feelings of love to jealousy, greed, and deceit. However, each character was fighting to find their inner peace and happiness, but the book overall was really about society and its downfalls. The book is written by Nike, who at one point in time was Jay Gatsby’s neighbor. Throughout the book, there wasn’t a character that didn’t have their own sort of crazy issue happening. This book takes place in the 1920’s when things were really starting to boom for the United States right after the war, especially speaking of the 1920’s and the decayed moral values. One affair that I recall this book really does is it grants you a respectable image of that, and the many downfalls taking place at that period of time. The author composed this novel to describe the problems of the world, and that you cannot place all of your goals and aspirations in material objects and other people 's happiness. The first of society’s downfalls that Fitzgerald highlights, is that of greed in the rich and wealthy community. As seen earlier on in the book was this quote “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,” he said “just remember that all people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” It shows that Fitzgerald was proving to show that there was wealth in this book.
