The Great Gatsby Melanie Martinez Pre-reading 1. I think we are still reading this book because it must have an important message or easy for the readers to relate to. I believe what gives it its longevity is that, in a way, it’s a work of art and is very remarkable. 2. People’s reaction to WWI was hatred. The war made the productivity be taken back in development. 3. In my opinion money brings happiness but only to a certain extent. Yes it 's nice to be able to buy materialistic things, travel anywhere, and not have to worry about money for bills. However, with money along come people pretending to be your friends, to benefit from the money. One advantage of being wealthy would not have to worry about income or needs like others do. You also have advantages such as special treatment and priorities because money may also come with power. A disadvantage is people take advantage of you. They may steal from you or pretend to like you just to get money out of you. 4. The “American Dream” back then was that once you got to America most things were in your favor such as equality, material prosperity, and democracy. It originates from the mystique regarding frontier life. Before it meant this land was paradise and better than where they came from. Today it means Americans have the opportunity of success through their hard work. 5. The moment I would like to relive from the past is the moment when my parents took me to Disneyland as a child.
