WWI/The Great Depression

WWI was a war going on from 1914 to 1918 which involved The Allies, Great Britain, France, Russia, And Italy, Then The Central Powers, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. The Great Depression was something that happened after WWI (October 29, 1929), which happened because of the U.S. stock market. (WWI notes)

WWI began on July 28th, 1914. WWI was caused mostly because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. However, other reasons WWI started was also because of Germany’s invasion of Belgium, causing a Russian revolution & the sinking of the Lusitania ship. Then came a new president, which was Franklin D. Roosevelt, he created The New Deal, and created three main goals which were relief to those who were suffering the effects of the Great Depression, recovery of the depressed economy, reforms that would help prevent economic crises in the future. These things probably affected current events in a atrocious way for The Great Depression because the U.S. maybe could have had more money today if they didn’t over spend it all on irrelevant things. WII probably affected the current events today in a good way because we won the war and if we would have lost the war, we could have lost everything, even though we already lost everything because of the Great Depression, which took a long time to gain everything

The poem states “With proud thanksgiving a mother for her children. England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit. Fallen in the cause of the free.” This means even though the mother solutes her children she also still mourns for them, she also solutes others during the war and mourns for other people's children too, she also says they will never be forgotten for their hard work. The Speaker is speaking to anyone who has lost a loved on in the war and she could be speaking to anyone who is going through what she is. The message is to let other people know the effects of what could happen to their loved ones. The mood & tone of this poem is depressing because it has to do with death in
