About 2,500 years ago, The Greeks were a mighty empire.The Greeks lived on a rocky peninsula in Europe.The Peninsula would end up as the birthplace of the great western civilization of Greece. They made great advances in technology, art, and architecture. The Greeks were a very people. They made great advances in architecture and many true works of art. The Greeks also made four out of the seven ancient wonders of the ancient world. There are the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Colossus of Rhodes, and the LightHouse of Alexandria. The Greeks worshiped many more but these were more important to them.To explain things they couldn 't understand they made these gods and myths to go with them. They explain the tide, seasons, where land and the seas and the sky come from, and the world itself. The religion would allow Greeks to look at the Mediterranean Sea and know that Poseidon made that. Poseidon was one of the 12 Olympian gods and one of the big three. Poseidon was the Greek god of the sea and the protector of all aquatic features. “He was the second son of the titans Cronus and Rhea when him and his brother Zeus and Hades were being given birth to by Rhea, to ensure his safety, Cronus ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing A rock, instead of Zeus. When he grew up, Zeus revolted against Cronus and the other Titans, defeating them all. After the revolution Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon choose which places they would rule and Poseidon got the sea and all of water. Poseidon wasn’t only the god of water he also was the reason for things that happened on land. Another name for Poseidon was Enosichthon which means “Earth-Shaker” in ancient Greek.
