Experimental Setup Introduction
This chapter explores the hardware setup of DFIG system. It also shows experimental results and the performance of this system under different types of controllers. The experimental work is divided into three parts. The first part is emulating the wind turbine characteristic using PMSM. The second part is implementing the GSC connected to the grid and maintaining its DC-link voltage constant under different disturbances. The final part is controlling the DFIG to extract power from the wind emulator and transfer it to the utility grid. General Hardware Overview
The simulation results illustrated in the previous chapter is experimentally verified in this chapter. To achieve this objective, a hardware wind turbine emulator is built in the laboratory and the DFIG system control is implemented to extract power from the wind emulator. Figure 5.1 and Figure 5. 2 show an overview of the DFIG WECS setup. The system comprises the following: A wound-rotor doubly-fed induction machine. The stator of this machine is connected to the electrical grid directly. Rotor-side converter which is PWM three-phase converter connected to the machine rotor terminals. This control of this converter has two tasks as follows: Control the rotor current which means control the stator currents as illustrated in chapter 3.
