Allowing children to regularly explore and experience nature can lead to positive health benefits including lowering the risk of childhood obesity, reducing allergies, and improving mental health. Through nature children experience more physical activity than indoor entertainment which can combat childhood obesity. While in nature a child’s body can adapt to allergies and eventually become immune. Lastly nature can help to improve a child’s overall mental health. Unfortunately interactions with nature have decreased substantially for children when compared to the time their parents spent with nature during their childhood years. With the increase of physical activity and muscle mass children can either begin to improve or maintain their physical health, which can prevent as well reverse childhood obesity. The reason for this is simple. If you observe a child’s indoor activities they consist of video games, computers, and television. What these activities have in common is that they are all sedentary activities in which they require almost no physical expenditure, whereas outdoor activities require a higher level of physical expenditure. Children are exposed to millions of bacteria on a daily basis. Through this exposure their bodies adapt to combat bad bacteria in an attempt to maintain health, so it is no surprise that nature can help in reducing allergies in children. A study conducted at the University of Helsinki concluded that teenagers who lived in rural environments were exposed to a greater diversity of bacteria than their urban dwelling counterparts. Because of the bacteria teenagers who lived in rural environments were less sensitive to allergens. One particular bacteria that aided in decreasing sensitivity to allergens is microbiota. This bacteria has been linked to being beneficial to humans in that it helps to maintain a healthy immune system. When exposed to some allergens in nature children’s’ bodies can adapt and combat
