The Health Problem of Generation Y: Social Science Essay Yutao You (Frank) Trinity Western University The Health Problem of Generation Y No matter whether in the present or in the past, the health issue is always a major topic. In order to prevent and control health issues appearing among children and young adult more efficiently, it is important and necessary to apply social science and statistics to understand the future trends and to decrease potential health risks. For example, the generation Yers are categorized as a particular group because of the aging of population. They will be the main population, and they will be taking the responsibility of social development in the future. From the perspective of health, there are some problems that we should concern. The obesity rate is increasing constantly; more young adults attempt to relaxing themselves through some unhealthy behaviors; and the issue of depression has been becoming the main reason of suicide. Gen Y refers to the generation of people born after Gen X with birth between the early 1960s and the 1980s. Based on authoritative information and views from some sociologists, the birth of Gen Y is generally between the 1980s and the 2000s. Gen Y is also called Millennials that authors William Strauss and Howe Neil were credited with naming the Millennials in their book Generations: The History of America 's Future (1991).
