1926 the University Of Miami has finally started their football program Miami’s varsity team had a perfect 7-0 season. Miami then later stumbled to mediocrity sitting in the 200’s in the Orange Bowl 53 years later, 1979 the canes hire Howard Schnellenberger former offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. Howard Schnellenberger developed a pro style offense at Miami Howard was asked many questions how he would arise Miami. For recruiting he simply marked off a area on a map roping off the state of Florida from Tampa, FL to Daytona Beach he called this “The State of Miami”. The difference between Howard and other coaches like Joe Paterno of Penn State and Bear Bryant of Alabama. Was Howard went into the inner city neighborhoods in Miami where football is the only escape for many kids. Miami’s first season they went 5-6 but they were able to go down without a fight they upset No. 16 Penn State 26-10 in Happy Valley.
