The New Madrid Earthquake, 1811 George Heinrich Crist, a resident of Kentucky, was settled with his family in a well-built house when the New Madrid Earthquake of 1811 came across their path, unlike a storm this “thing” had no warnings. He chose to share his account of this quake, or quakes. This was part of his life and also a part of history in the making so that is why I believe he shared his personal essay. It’s not an argumentative account but rather short entries from 5 months from his life. Kentucky wasn’t the only state that was hurt, 6 other states were involved. The term “New Madrid Earthquake” refers to portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. This was the biggest earthquake (series of earthquakes) as it changed the course of the Mississippi river.
Nearly 30 years later, in 1978, Stanton Friedman was prompted to revisit the crash. Stanton Friedman was an unemployed scientist, and a part-time UFO lecturer. On February 12, 1978 Friedman interviewed a man over the phone who said he handled the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, but the man, Major Jesse Marcel, couldn’t remember the month or even the year of the event. Marcel expressed that he believed the military had covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. Approximately one year later, William Moore, a colleague of Friedman, found newspaper clippings of the even that Marcel referred to. The research that Friedman and Moore uncovered has made the Roswell crash the most celebrated case in the literature of UFOs. In February of 1980, the National Inquirer ran the interview of Marcel and Friedman bringing in national and worldwide attention
Late one summer night in July of 1947, a couple saw a large glowing object quickly fly across the sky. It was later reported that a weather balloon crashed nearby. People have often wondered if it actually was a weather balloon, and some have believed it to be a downed alien craft that the government covered up. Theories about a Roswell coverup did not become widely known to the American public until a few decades after the crash. This change in public knowledge demonstrates the variability of conspiracy theories--some become popular immediately following the events they try to explain, and some can take years to catch on. From the crash in Roswell in 1947 to current day, America’s public knowledge of theories about Roswell has grown at an unsteady pace, driven by the types of technology used to disseminate information. America’s knowledge of the Roswell incident has developed in three phases. First, immediately after the crash in 1947, there was some attention given to the crash, but it was mostly local news reports. Second, after the testimony in 1984 of an eyewitness who was a major in the air force, conspiracies blossomed. Finally, after interest diminished had begun to diminish, the internet ignited another increase in Roswell theories.
What happened at Roswell and why did the government hind it. Who found the object? What did the army do with it at that time? What did the government do? Who Fond The Object The name of the person that found it was Mac Brazel and he lived just outside of Roswell,
In the summer of 1947, a rancher in Roswell, New Mexico, by the name of Mac Brazel, discovered unusual occurrences and objects on his property. Some of the things he discovered seemed strange to him because they appeared on his land and he was extremely familiar with every square foot
At first, he did not think anything of the wreckage until he heard people speaking of flying saucers being seen near Roswell. At this point, Brazel believed what he had found was actually the wreckage of a destroyed alien spaceship. With confidence, Brazel told his County Sheriff that he could have possibly found the ruins of one of the flying discs. In turn, the Sheriff transferred this information to the local army air base (Park para 15). To appease Brazel and the Sheriff, the army base sent an intelligence officer, Major Jesse Marcel, to the scene of the crash. He noted that the wreckage looked like a possible weather balloon crash and that was the supposedly the end of that (Park para 16). The incident could have ended there and nothing would have been mentioned of it after that but instead it was said that the army took extreme security measures while recovering the rubble at the crash site. Of course, this caught the eyes of the local population as a demolished weather balloon did not require such a high level of security (Joseph para 4). It also did not help that soon after the crash site was examined by the military, a press release stated that the government had gained possession of a flying disc thanks to a local farmer and the Sherriff’s office. The military quickly retracted the statement but it was too late, the public had already grabbed a hold of the
Just four days after this incident the Roswell Army Air Force made reports on the capturing of a “flying saucer”. Just one day later
The Roswell incident is a well known topic around the world. Many have different opinions on the incident, some say it is a government cover-up, other say it was a hoax. The witnesses and the United States Military different opinions of the Roswell incident help mold the story. The
In fact, many of the accounts contradict each other and rely on memories of people from over thirty years before. Because of this, I found it difficult to believe most of the stories. "For example, Friedman used secondhand stories of a government engineer Barney Barnett and some unidentified archeology students from an unknown university to back up another startling discovery" (Sobel). According to these sources, dead extraterrestrial aliens were also found in the desert of Roswell. Marcel never mentioned any alien bodies lying near the wreckage and neither did the Brazel family. He also added that the rest of the saucer landed at a crash site in a town called Corona, ninety miles northwest of Roswell and that a second saucer crashed 150 miles away in San Augustin, New Mexico. He believed two saucers crashed in midair, scattering debris and bodies over a wide area. Soon, a supposed eyewitness, Gerald F. Anderson, contacted Friedman to support his claim. According to him, he came upon the craft with its alien corpses scattered in the sand when he was rock climbing with his family: “There was a big gouge mark where it had cut a furrow across the arroyo....That’s when my brother said, ‘That’s a goddamn spaceship! Them’s Martians! (Sobel 96).” Friedman published Anderson’s account, though no eyewitnesses ever backed up this story. Friedman’s work sparked the interest of other
There 's something in the sky! This Paper will prove that the United States Government covers up files and reports; and most of the files, and evidence are locked away at area 5e1. For decades area 51 and cover up stories have captured the eye of people, TV, and the
“For reasons unknown, the government has admitted that Area 51…is a real place in the Mojave Desert about 100 miles north of Las Vegas” (Leiby). Leiby emphasizes that after so many years of denying that Area 51 doesn’t exist, they finally spoke out about it due to pressure from the
The Roswell Incident: Fact, Fiction or Military Cover Up? Some time in July of 1947, a mysterious flying object zigzagged across the skies of New Mexico. Within twenty-four hours the object disappeared from radar just as mysteriously as it had appeared. It was last seen in a small town in the middle of the Arizona desert, it’s name, Roswell.
It happened at around 5pm when Renato Nicolaï, a 55-year-old farmer, heard a strange whistling sound while working on his farm. He then saw a saucer-shaped object about eight feet in diameter land about 50 yards away and then took off almost immediately, rising above the treeline and departing to the north east leaving burn marks on the ground where it had supposedly sat.
In 1947 Walter Haut, a public information officer for the Roswell army air field, issued a press release that military personnel had recovered a “flying disc” that had crashed near a ranch near Roswell. However, the Military later informed the public that the object was not a “flying disc”, but a weather balloon. The story was nearly forgotten until the late 1970’s, when UFO researchers began interviewing people affiliated with the Roswell incident, and recovering documents. They came to the conclusion that a UFO did crash at the ranch near Roswell, alien bodies were recovered by the military, and there was a cover up in place. Then books, movies, and television episodes were created that talked about what happened near Roswell, and polls showed that a large number of people believed that an alien spacecraft did crash in Roswell. In response to the allegations made by UFO researchers, the U.S government released a report in 1994 explaining that the weather balloon that crashed in Roswell was from Project Mogul, a top secret military program where microphones were flown on
Napoleon made many mistakes. The interests of Napoleon and Great Britain clashed too much to keep the peace which was a problem. He marched to the English Channel with a massive Army and self-confident to invade England. With 24 miles of water and British sea power ahead of him,
