First of all, experiences. Experiences are supposed to form the type of person someone will be when they grow up. For one thing, the type of music a child listens to can affect him. For example, if the child listens to opera versus rap music. Opera music tends to be more positive for brain development. Compare to rap music, tends to be less of a positive impact on people. Also,to the food they eat can change their experience. We all know a healthier meal is better than a pizza or fried chicken. Sometimes people would not know about the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods. In other words, “anybody that had any trace of African ancestry must be acknowledged as black” (V., 2013). But, would the light skin also be considered as African-Americans, if they do not look the part? For some black people, this becomes a problem. Finally, colorism. Colorism is defined as “discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.” (Colorism, 2017) This divided the black community, which then, created identity issues for light skin tone blacks and self esteem issues for darker skin individuals (Colorism, 2017). During slavery days in America, light skinned slaves, got bought by their owners, and showed favoritism among dark skin slaves. As a result of the inclination for the light skin slaves, the owners would have them spy on the rest of the slaves. This way the slave owner got to hear the rumors of their slaves. For example, if a slave wanted to run away the light skin tone slave would had told their owner. Then the owner would punish the misbehaved slave. Years after slavery was done, the white community was not done, it still harms the black community. When black people were in public, and wanted to sit in a room along with white people, they had to go thru the “paper bag test”.
