It contains the exact words of god written by his prophet mohammed. Muslims rely on the Sunnah, the saying and actions, of a prophet. This sunnah is an idea, in the words of God written by Muhammad's deeds. They were recorded in what are called ahadith, which are news and, reports. Here is an english translation on what Muhammad reportedly said to his companions, in his teachings. Numbers 1-20 are from Volumes 1-2, and have been quoted from "Riyadh-Us-Saleheen.” Volumes 3-4 were recorded by "An-Nawawi's Forty Hadith.” The basic message of Islam can be summed up in the arabic expression “La ilaha illa Allah”, which translates to No god but Allah: Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. The word Islam means submission, a muslim is someone who submits to God. In submitting to god, muslims must accept the 5 pillars, also known as the five pillars of Islam. The first pillar is muslims have to proclaim their belief in one god. Further, they accept that God has revealed his message to Mohammed. Muslims honor many prophets including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. To the Muslims, Mohammed is their most important prophet, even though they honor Muhammad, they do not worship him as a God. The second pillar is prayer. Muslims are expected to pray 5 times a day and face toward the holy mecca.
