The Hot Bands During The Swing Era

For the Count Basie Orchestra, everything started during the Swing Era (1930-1945), a time where many factors, including an eco-disaster, left the economic stability of the United Stated in chaos. Because of this, 40% of the population was unemployed. Things were no different for jazz musicians, bands got larger and restrictions were established in order to achieve success in the troubled economy. This led to an age of dullness among many jazz bands.
A prime example was the Sweet Bands, even though these helped popularized jazz, performers were not allowed to do what they loved the most, improvise. This situation created a need for self-expression, therefore, Hot Bands were formed.
