This was probably the hottest day of the summer, all the kids in the neighborhood were outside playing. When the sun was at its highest point the thermometer read 105 degrees. Kelly Brooks was outside playing with her sister Logan and cousin Madalynn. The girls were having a water balloon fight when Logan noticed a dog in the middle of the road. We all walked over to the curb, the dog remained still, motionless, but we could see it was breathing when his body would move up and down as he inhaled and exhaled. Logan leaned over to Kelly and asked, “Do you think he’s okay?” “Logan it will be fine, dogs are smart enough not to sit in the middle of the road. I’m sure when a car drives by he will move.” Kelly said in reply. “Guys, there is a car coming, let’s back up and see if he will move,” Madalynn added in. The white car drove by, nothing happened, it just sat there. The girls didn’t know how they could help the dog and it seemed like they were the only kids in the neighborhood that noticed it. Madalynn, Logan, and Kelly started back towards their yard, after a while, the girls forgot about the dog. It seemed like it was getting hotter and hotter as the sun got brighter and brighter. Kelly decided to take the other two out for ice cream. They packed into Kelly’s car, backed out of the driveway and started to drive off but then Kelly slid to a stop.
