The writer depicts how the snake exhibits calmness and nonviolence despite his wariness of the man to persuade the reader that the snake did not deserve his brutal death. When the snake spotted the man approaching, he “held his ground in calm watchfulness” and “was not even rattling yet.” The snake meant no harm; he was not threatening the man but was rather regarding him with a cautious curiosity. The snake’s passive nature aids in reassuring the reader that the snake is not necessarily a danger. Nevertheless, the man went to retrieve a hoe with the intention of killing the snake. The snake exerted more effort into avoiding conflict with the man to gain sympathy from the reader and to illustrate the man as a relentless assailant. When the man returned, the snake “shot into a dense bush” and “shook his fair but furious signal.” The snake was resorting to retreat tactics and peace proposals. Even in
A child’s cry rings out. As my eyes light up, a soft skinned, blond haired angel is carefully placed in my cradled arms. As he coos softly, latching onto my finger, I begin to fall in love. The problem with the myth that “man the hunter,” is that anthropology such as Raymond Dart, discovered fossils of early man, that completely turned the idea that man was always the hunter on its head. On examination of the fossils he discovered he found evidence, skull damage from large cats and other predators. This completely disproved the idea, that we have always been the hunter and that hunting is something that we have only recently learned to do.
In this story, Mr. and Mrs. Fox are married but not necessarily in love. This is how many marriages end up like in the real world today. The wife always keeps herself detached. “She makes no romantic claims, does not require reassurance, and he adores her because of the lack” (page 49) She does not give her husband much of anything other than sex. Because of her animal instincts, Mrs. Fox does not know how to be attached. No body ever sees animals in a relationship; they just have sex and then go their separate ways. It shows that Mr. Fox loves his wife more that she loves him. He notices that the last chewed mouthful has been put back on her plate, a damp little brown pile”. (Page 52) This has a deeper meaning, which is that animals do not eat like humans. They can spit out their food because its animal nature. This shows that Mr. Fox is trying to care for her but in more ways than one, he does not understand her or understand her needs. In the story it states, “the one who loves less is always loved more”(page 49) this shows how her husband loves her in every way he knows how but she does not love him the way he does her; she will not let her husband get close enough to see the real problems in
