Throughout the history of United States of America, the immigration issue has grown into important part of our lives. Many influential people and politicians have tried to improve and control the immigration, by giving foreigners all over the world a chance to explore “The American Dream.” Therefore, during the presidential race, immigration has always become a hot topic as presidential candidates debated about how to handle the massive immigrations growing in the United States. For that reason, when each presidential candidate has their own solutions and views in immigrations, the way they express and talk using a particular word puts them in a position where they will be judged based on their words by Americans and people around the …show more content…
Bill Clinton said “All Americans, whatever their racial and ethnic origin, share the same values.” George Bush commented, “New Americans are not to be feared as strangers; they are to be welcomed as neighbors.” Barack Obama welcomed immigrants saying “We were strangers once, too.” Their words have influenced and changed many opinions, relationships, and demeanor in the United States to accepted the New Americans. However, Donald Trump was straightforward toward the illegal immigrations, expressing his opinion and plan for immigration using language that made many immigrants uncomfortable and discouraged.
The term “illegal aliens” is well used by Donald Trump. “Alien” means creature from outer space that does not belong in Earth, yet Donald Trump has constantly used it throughout his Webpage. As stated in Trump’s webpage, “Illegal aliens already in the interior of the United States….all criminal aliens must be returned to their home countries…” Trump also described that undocumented immigrants are “rapists” and they are “bringing drugs and crimes.” Using this strong language to describe the immigrants, Trump has gained hatred of immigrants and this will not get many different ethnicity supporters to side with Trump. This means that Trump must change his word choice when speaking publicly about immigrants and his plans to deport the “illegal.”
Trump’s uncensored words on the illegal immigrants have offended and discouraged the new Americans, who came to pursue their
U.S. immigration policy has always been an important topic debated by Presidential candidates for decades. Immigration reform has been ignored by Congress, leaving decisions up to the President and Supreme Court. In the meantime, the hopes of about eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., as well as future rules for legal immigration, rest on the shoulders of those decision makers. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump both agree that changes to U.S. immigration policy are needed; however, Donald Trump is taking a radical approach suggesting mass deportation and completely revamping U.S. immigration policy, whereas, Hillary Clinton is overlooking some issues and wants to continue to support the policy set forth by the Obama Administration. Regardless of who becomes President, they will have a hard time getting these issues passed through Congress.
The Hispanic population in the United States has increased throughout the years, but so has the racism. Sad to say that many other races don’t like the fact that more Hispanics are migrating all over the United States. Donald Trump our 45th president of the United States has created more racism with his statements towards Hispanics. In the article from “The Washington Post” by Michelle Ye Hee Lee, mentions that there been many violent rallies with many people getting hurt, as well as many protest around the United States due to these words from president trump “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”.
Although the issue of immigration policy has been at the center of political debates, largely discussed in the media and newspapers, no one has yet found a solution to this ill-defined problem, that would comply with the America’s core values. While I think the immigration policy does need a reform, the solution to this problem certainly is not a deportation of all undocumented residents.
On November 20, 2014, Former President of United States of America, Barack Obama gave a speech on immigration at the White House. This topic concerned ample families in the United States of America, as a lot of them are not legally residing in the states and the other families who are citizens and documented are threatened by the increasing number of illegal immigrants because they might become their competition in employment, education and business opportunities. Barack Obama Addressed these concerns in a unique perception that enlightened the audience and gave examples and ideas that led them to view this problem under a different light that isn’t necessarily negative. The president’s connection with the audience was not only logical and
President Barrack Obama did not abuse his executive powers in protecting undocumented immigrants. President Obama wanted illegal children to be protected, yet he stated that his decision would only provide temporary protection. He knew that he would have to reform immigration, and DACA would not be a pathway to receive citizenship. However, Obama knew his policy could be rejected after a new president would take office. Shortly After, the 45th President was not welcomed with the usual open arms of the American people, due to his generalizations. In 2016, during his presidential campaign, Trump called Mexicans “Rapist” and “Criminals.” It also seemed he had experienced tensions with other minorities such as Arabs. Even though the majority of undocumented immigrants has risen from Asia, Trump’s decision on DACA singles out a racial group for discrimination, particularly Mexicans.
Donald Trump, the recently elected 45th president of the United States, gave two different answers when he was asked for his thoughts on immigration and the road to citizenship. While being interviewed in June of 2012 by CNBC, In response to the tough immigration law passed by the state of Arizona a day before, Trump said that he understood the undocumented immigrants and how hard they have worked to become exemplary people and that he does not believe that they should be sent out of the country. However, in June of 2015 when Trump initiated his presidential campaign by responding quite the opposite by stating that Mexico does not sent their best people, instead they sent their rapists and criminals, he also said that all undocumented immigrants on the road to citizenship would have
This year’s presidential election is is being referred to as one that will be historic. While the 2016 presidential campaign has in fact caused social and political disagreement, each candidate beginning and remaining candidate in the presidential race brought forth issues in our nation for table discussion. One of the most debated topics during the primary elections and caucus season was the issue of immigrants and illegal immigration. During this time, current Republican front runner Donald Trump declared accusations towards the Mexican and Hispanic community as being part of the American downfall. While making vulgar remarks earned the GOP candidate publicity and support from anti-immigration reform holders, Trump’s remarks also brought forth the argument into the light.
Today, tThe visible number of unauthorized immigrants today in the US points to the fact that US immigration laws are outdated and inadequate to meet the 21st century needs of the nation in the 21st century. In American politics, Iimmigration reform has largely remained as a “valence” issue in American politics. Often, Tthe issue of immigration reform has often been overshadowed by other events from foreign wars, and national security threats to and the Great Recession that trickled down the in the US economy. Moreover, the hostile environment of partisan politics further impeded impedes comprehensive reform in the “broken” US immigration system. In the primetime address, President Obama expressed the dire need of Comprehensive
Undocumented families and individuals are a key to America’s working economy. President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election was well known for his thoughts about illegal immigration where he believes those who are not in America legally, should go back to where they came from. Illegal immigration has been happening for over generations where undocumented immigrants want a better life than they had in their previous country. Without illegal immigrants, our nation wouldn't be where it is without them, therefore, it is essential that they should not be deported back to their country.
But our country is a melting pot that brings together different cultures and languages, a country that brings together different people of color with different backgrounds and unites them to make one nation. There is no perfect description to what an American should look like because we’re all different. But unfortunately, in today’s society the narrative is different. We have built one where immigrants are now outsiders invading our land and taking our resources, even though not so long ago the U.S. did the exact same thing in a more violent and blatant way. Today, these immigrants and primarily Mexicans have been attacked by the comments President Trump made during his campaign. He called Mexicans, “bad hombres” and “rapist and murderers.” Now that he is President there has been a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that have caused paranoia for all the Hispanic community. The deportation of illegal immigrants has been present since the Bush administration and even the Obama administration, but none have stirred the pot as much as Trump’s. In an article by Vox that spoke about the raids, one ICE official from Las Angeles said that of the 151 arrests they made, “all but 5 would’ve been people we would’ve prioritized for enforcement previously.” Trump has set up a decrease in guidelines of what warrants an individual from being deported. Before, there was a set guidelines where they prioritize
Due to the economic benefits of immigrant labor, the dangers of central American countries, and the basic human rights of noncitizens, the US government must grant amnesty to undocumented immigrants. Illegal immigration has become a rising issue in the US over the past few years, and it will continue to heat up coming into this year 's presidential election. This issue is also very present in the local community due to it’s diversity and large Hispanic population. Generally, many people are sharply opposed to undocumented immigrants including some of the current front runners in the United States presidential race. However, undocumented immigration is not bad for the United States. On the contrary, the United States
Trump is one that is completely against illegal immigration. Trumps biggest oppositions against illegal immigrants, is that he is determined to send them back were they came from even if it means separating them from their families. The Republican nominee has called for a crackdown on illegal immigrants, saying they “compete directly against vulnerable American workers” (Trump). He promises to cut back legal immigration with new controls he says would “boost wages and ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first.” Trumps actions seem to be more of class rather than what’s right for our country. In one of his statements he states that he will ensure jobs for Americans which goes against numerous researches done that those immigrants don’t affect our jobs, we would just rather not do the jobs immigrants have. Instead of attacking the immigrants with records and a threat to our country, Trump would rather take the easy way out and just deport them
Trumps main reasons for wanting to deport these illegal immigrants is because they are bringing drugs, crime, and they are rapist(2016, January 26). These reasons are very unreal and discriminating. In fact, immigrants, illegal and unauthorized are less likely to commit serious crimes than native-born Americans(Immigration Policy Center). As we can see, the things Trump says are not actually true. No matter where we go there is always going to be crime, drugs, and rapist. There is no way kicking a certain race out of our country is going to demolish these altercations we have in the United
An issue that has continued to grow in importance in America is the issue of immigration. While it started back in the early years of our country with the Founding Fathers disapproving of immigration, it has become more apparent as a result of recent events. One major example of the recent events is the election of President Donald J. Trump. His election marks a drastic change in the goals of the United States. Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama, worked toward a more open and accessible country where people of all religions and beliefs can reside. Our newly elected president has a different view of other countries and the citizens that inhabit them. One popular example of his differing view of other countries is his opinion of Mexico and immigrants from there. He is quoted in saying “they’re rapists” (Gatehouse and Campbell 32) when referring to the Mexican people that has crossed the Mexican-American border. He is also well known for his plan to create a physical wall along the Mexican-American border to prevent further illegal immigration. In fact, originating from before Trump’s presidency, police officers can check the citizenship
If the idea of our president willingly destroying families isn’t enough to change one’s mind, lets look at the facts, or lack thereof, within his policy presentation. One of the great claims made throughout the Trump campaign is that the Mexican immigrants coming in were all “rapists and criminals”. He was even quoted in a debate saying " We have gangs roaming the street. And in many cases, they 're illegally here, illegal immigrants. And they have guns. And they shoot people. And we have to be very strong. And we have to be very vigilant." He has put a dialogue into the heads of his supporters that lacks truth whatsoever. No matter how the data is sliced, immigrants have shown to commit
