The Impact Of Technology On The Classroom

Throughout this course, a new perspective has provided us with the opportunity to take a look at many of the different ways in which the digital world has become one of the most dominant viewpoints of today’s generation, and how technology has taken over and welcomed itself into many aspects of our lives. This course paper will take a look at one topic of interest in particular, which in hopes will shed some light on a heavily discussed topic in the education world: does technology help or hinder the student. This paper will look to prove the point and discover more about the way in which technology has been incorporated into the classroom, both in an elementary context as well as a post-secondary context, and the effects that it has had on the student, the teacher, and the overall academic development that accompanies it.

The use of technology in the classroom is an important tool to utilize as an educator. Technology allows for educators to have instant access to a plethora of resources that would not be available if technology was not used in the classroom. Teachers have the ability to plan lessons, create presentations, and have interactive games for students to use as a learning tool through the use of different digital devices. Modern day technology is rapidly advancing and providing teacher with many different tools to use in the classroom to enhance the students learning experience.

Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.

Technology in the school has become an increasingly challenging and somewhat disruptive aspect in today’s educational system. In order to maintain what is considered the status quo, schools have focused their energy and resources on banning cell phones, wireless Internet and blocking social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter in schools. However, as technology continues to grow in our society outside of the school, many believe that effectively involving these technologies into the classroom can ultimately improve student engagement in their learning environments. This research paper will focus on both sides of the argument and ultimately seek to determine if there is a best practice regarding technological being put into schools.

Use of technology in CCT 109 classrooms should be allowed to capitalize on these advances and challenge the learning status quo. Technology’s adoption encourages rethinking of how information is acquired and processed, how people learn, how they are empowered, what jobs will be in highest demand, and what the nature of learning and useful information is. With the increasing accessibility, affordability, and popularity of laptops and tablets, it is essential for students, professors, and institutions to welcome these devices in the classroom. Technology’s benefits to the professor, student, and society far outweigh any perceived disadvantages.

Technology has truly taken over the classroom many schools now have SMART Boards, Chromebook laptops, iPads and Teacher Websites to refer to. As of July 2017, there are 57 percent of teachers who often use interactive whiteboards for instruction. Mrs. A said almost every classroom has a SMART Board and desktop computer for teachers. The school is still in the process of updating SMART Boards to make sure they are using the most current technology. Starting this year, every grade has a form a personal technology that they can keep until they graduate Elementary School. Kindergarten through third grade get to keep an iPad and the fourth and fifth-grade students get their own chrome book. What I found fascinating is that the students get to keep these chrome books or iPads in their desk and are held accountable for it. Once they graduate Elementary School they will most likely receive another Chrome book or iPad to keep throughout middle school. To accommodate students who do not have technology at home, some students are able to take these chrome books home and complete on academic work.

Teachers can use technology to teach various subjects and to find out more information on how to present a topic in a new and exciting way. Teachers can also allow students to use technology to broaden their learning experiences tremendously.

Living in a time period of accelerating change, I think that it is important to lean away from the more traditional educational tactics of teaching and learning that may have worked in the past.
