A college education has been viewed as the key to the American dream. There are many opinions on the purpose of a college education from obtaining new information, becoming a more well-rounded individual or preparing for the workforce. Originally, the college education was primarily used to become more educated to provide services to society; however, the college education is perceived as an expectation and mandatory in becoming a useful person in society and workforce. The purpose of obtaining a college education to obtain the skills necessary to become a well-rounded individual in society.

Not only do we get a lot out of getting a college degree in what we want to do, but so does our society. There are requirements for every job for a reason. Jobs need people that specialize in just that career field. They want us to be passionate about what we do and more importantly know exactly what we are doing. For example, hospitals have no room for mistakes because not only may it cost a life, it can also costs them money. We feel safer knowing people know how to do their jobs right. College education is necessary whenever there is a shortage in certain careers. It’s important to have higher education so there can be growth and competition in our society.

College Education is most important because its knowledge that can never be taken away from you and you will always have your college education to fall back on. First of all, the value of a college education can be taken in all different kinds of aspects. When enrolling in school I look at it like this is my pride and glory and no one can take this from me. You can lose all your fame and fortune but if you have a college education it remains the same.

What is the purpose of college? Today's society people believe college is meant to become financially successful. However, others believe college is meant for self development. Some people think college will help an individual be financially successful because they are able to learn the proper skill and knowledge for a dream job. While other people think college is meant for self development because they discover their strengths and weaknesses. I believe college is a place to gain knowledge and skill because it will lead to a successful career. The importance of college is the significant amount of opportunities accessible for college graduates such as, feeling secure with a stable income, earning great benefits, feeling more satisfied with a job, getting better job opportunities and not suffering from unemployments.

A college education is a passport for a good future and learning leads to more opportunities to improve as a person. Students often ask themselves why attend college and why pay a lot money just for a piece of paper that says, “Congratulations for the achievement.” According to Jullien Gordon, a TEDtalk speaker, “for every minute in college, students are paying one dollar.” If Gordon is right teachers should teach students skill that they cannot learn on their own. Sometimes people need to stop asking and complaining about the four years in college and ask themselves “how I can improve my life?” The purpose of college is to discover a person’s value.

Michelle Obama, American lawyer and First Lady of the United Stated from 2009-2017 once stated “You have to stay in school. You have to. You have to go to college. You have to get your degree. Because that's the one thing people can't take away from you is your education. And it is worth the investment.” Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines college as an independent institution of higher learning offering a course of general studies leading to a bachelor’s degree. In the fall 2017 school year, around 20.4 million people were attending college. The purpose of college is to help people in the job industry, be able to meet many new people, and lastly to grow as a person.

Trying to obtain a college degree, requires a lot of planning, saving and sacrificing. It is all worth the sacrifice. A college education better prepares an individual for the competitive job market. It helps to improve their problem solving skills, decision-making and analytical skills. With a college degree, you can develop the skills and knowledge needed to secure a higher position with a company, earn more money and enjoy a better quality of life.

Many people attend college for a higher education and to find a career within their interest. Despite the fact that college is becoming more expensive and many people are not on a full ride scholarship have student loan debt, a college education is necessary. College has the ability to help build skills for a specific career or job. It also teaches students how to get involved with other students and to network. College can open doors for a poorer family. Many jobs today that don 't require any college experience don 't pay enough money for opportunities in life. It prepares you for adulthood, and gives you and open mind and knowledge about the real world.College is necessary and beneficial for a person 's life.

College is an integral part to be an intelligent and open minded person. Where ever you go everyone believes it the key to be a successful life and career. It doesn’t really matter what you believe the purpose of college is whether you see it as an eye opening experience or as training for the future, it’s up to interpretation. College is really what you make it it’s a place for exploration, even though college prices have skyrocketed in the last couple years. Personally, I believe that college education no matter the cost or what is the gain. It’s worth every dime, sweat, and tears. Many people view college as their gate way to a job; furthering their education with a higher pay instinctive in mind. The fact of the matter is, this way of thinking is very logical. In today’s society especially in the U.S. it is hard to get a job without having a degree. However, I prefer to view college as an opportunity to cultivate our God given gifts and talents. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been questioned about your dream career, or what you want to achieve as an adult, or even now. Chances are you have, but, did you ever take the time to really think about that question and finally distinguish that you want to be an Astronaut or a Surgeon or maybe even a Scientist? Well, if you did then there’s almost no doubt that you’ll need to attend college to acquire the certain level of skills you need to become that person that you dream to be. Obtaining a college degree will almost guarantee that more and more opportunities will come knocking on your door because a college degree is a stepping stone to success and companies and businesses are very much aware of that. Success is what people are looking for and a degree verifies that you qualify to achieve great things. Oh, and did I forget to mention that that vast majority of people with a college degree make a lot more money than people with just a High School diploma or being a High School drop out for that matter. However, aside from qualifying for an immeasurable amount of career options, a College education has shown to help with communicating with others, which might not just help with job benefits, but also with relationships on another level.
