For the occupation of nursing it is important that nurses look after themselves both physically and mentally as the vocation is very demanding. Physically the career involves things like heavy lifting, long periods of walking/standing, long exhausting working hours, pushing/pulling and good eyesight and vision which is a very hard to maintain if you are getting little to no sleep. Mentally nursing requires you to be good and quick at making decisions, also you will be analysing the patients and looking at their care plans so it is important that the nurses are fully focused and able to concentrate. There are many causes that can interfere with the nurse being able to exercise regularly and eating a balanced diet. For example: nurses working late, doing double shifts, getting no breaks due to patients needing continuous care and nurses finishing late which results in no eating or binge eating and no exercise due to exhaustion. A lot of nurses are said to have a disturbed eating pattern and there are many risks associated when this occurs. When a nurse fails to adhere to a balanced diet and participate in regular exercise they become more fatigue, they lack in energy because they feel weak. They also have an increasingly high blood pressure and may even result to depression or anxiety due to the amount of stress they’re under. A nurse can improve their lifestyle by sticking to a structured and well balanced diet. This includes eating fruit, vegetables, slow release carbohydrates, protein, fat and vitamins and minerals. It is also important that they try their best to eat something in between their long exhausting shifts in order to give them energy and keep them focused. Also in order to improve the lifestyle of a nurse they should try finding a hobby that interests them whether it is art, music or yoga. Classes such as yoga can release stress and provide the nurse with positivity energy and make them feel relaxed.
