As early as the 1500s, Asia was making a start towards religion. Many Missionaries, like the Jesuits, introduced various parts of Asia to the Christian faith. For a functional classroom, respect must play a large role. While there are many aspects of respect, three major roles needed are respect of students, respect of teachers, and respect of property. First, in a functional classroom there must be a respect of the students from the teacher. As according to Dr. Seuss, “A person’s a person no matter how small.” By respecting their students, a teacher is more likely to have a positive response in their classroom environment, leading to less classroom issues and adversity. Without these issues, a class is less likely to be distracted by inter-student issues, and more likely to be able to pay attention, as there is less distraction present. The past year has been quite a journey and I have learned and matured greatly over this time. I understand how big of a mistake I made, and I have thought on numerous occasions of how I would keep something like this from happening again if I was once again a student at the University of Alabama. As most students mentioned in blackboard, it is not acceptable that a person refers to another person’s work for the purpose of using part or whole of the information in his/her assignment without an appropriate reference because it is against academic integrity. This case is an example of a serious breach. It could be level 2 or 3 plagiarism depending on the severity of the infringement. (Curtin university, 2016) Plagiarism is defined as intellectual theft. (Curtin university, 2016) Plagiarising or letting another person copy your own work for assessments, group project or in examinations is strictly prohibited in any circumstance. Lena Baker an African American Women in Georgia was unjustly murdered by the state and country in 1945. Her boss, Earnest Knight, was an abusive man, who made sexual advances on this women. After being scared for her life she acted in self defense in order to save herself. In the possess of fighting for her life she killed Knight. An all white male jury found Lena guilty of murder, and was sentenced to execution by electrocution. After her death in 1945 she was pardoned of all charges in 2003. Academic Integrity requires a student acting with honesty, truth, fairness and respect in his or her academic work. The opposite of academic integrity is academic dishonesty which includes plagiarism, cheating, duplicating submissions without prior approval, or other forms of dishonesty, such as buying an essay online, copying answers on a test, a quiz or an assignment, using information without proper reference.

Academic integrity is a code of laws, which warns students against cheating, lying, and plagiarism. According to the dictionary, integrity is “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness”. Other words, this is the base for academic integrity. When a student signed it up, he or she promise to be an honorable and decent person. During the studying process, students can’t just “copy-pasted” the information, which they have found on the internet or in some books. He or she can’t take someone else’s papers and personate it. Students can not write papers for someone else even if they agree to do so. Besides the students can’t cheat by themselves, they can’t allow to cheat to their friends or strangers. If the

Ethics are the principals that build an individual’s character and integrity. It is the code of conduct that a person lives by; it is the way that a person conducts themselves when no one is around. Stealing, lying, and cheating are wrong, yet every day in the workplace these issues occur. Growing competition lends to the need for people to do what they can to get ahead and stay ahead. Ethics are pushed to the side as people try to gain power or to stay out of trouble, all at the risk of tarnishing their character. This same mindset has spilled over into Academia. A student’s desire to successfully earn a degree by any means necessary has caused educational institutions to address these ethical issues by setting policies in place to combat academic dishonesty.

Without a doubt, I picked communication and journalism certificate program, because I am deeply interested in studying the art of human interactions: how have they evolved throughout the years and how is it influencing a system of people. However, while we study the science of communication here at UB, I believe the actuality is as equally as important. I believe my qualification for this course comes from my genuine passion and willingness to thrive for professionalism. My journalistic professionalism will be, I believe, profoundly improved through my acquisition to this course.
