Many things can be done to help the working poor with child care. Many of the poor people have trouble with finding affordable child care that they can use while they work. The government could provide money to help create lower cost day cares. They should not be completely free, but they should be low cost for the working welfare recipients. In the past, the government has helped with funding daycare, “To help meet the need for child care, a 1996 federal welfare law included $3.5 billion in funding for day care.” (The Americans pg. 1117) The government has helped in the past, so they could continue to do so in the future. This would be a good thing because it would get more poor people working, and being able to provide for themselves. Something
Childcare or “daycare” is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United States. There are many options for childcare that parents could choose from. The cost of childcare has risen dramatically over the past year, and no one really knows who to blame for it. The average cost for one child in a childcare facility ranges from $100-$350 a week. The government offers families subsidies for childcare, but that’s only if your income is low. What about the hard working middle class families that are still struggling to pay the high cost of childcare? How will they provide childcare for their kids?
From the functionalist prospective you can see that finding a way to pay for child care for the people who cannot afford day care and who do not qualify for subsidies can create new jobs with the influx of parents who can go back to work and increase the amount of daycares being opened to cater to the children whose parents are going back to work as well. It will create taxes for state and government from these
In this program our child care providers have a hands-on interaction with the children. They guide our early learners through child directed play. The child care staff provides different learning opportunities by supplying an array of activities based on the children’s interests. This program will allow the children an opportunity to become leaders in their learning, by exploring and discovering their play environment on their own, with peers and through guidance from the staff. Although we have many open-ended play opportunities, we will have a few structured activities for the children to participate in. We find it important to keep some structure within the daily schedule as this will allow the children the
The outlook for children in foster care in the U.S. is cause for alarm (Zetlin, MacLeod, & Kimm, 2012). Foster youth, otherwise known as youth who are ward of the court, are one of the most at risk populations in areas such as physical and emotional health, juvenile delinquencies and educational achievement. This is primarily due to factors such as disruptive a history of abuse, school changes, social stigma and isolation, lack of educational supports, disproportionately high rates of special education services, and exclusionary disciplinary actions (Gallegos & White, 2013). Specific to education, foster youth are twice as likely to be suspended and almost four times as likely to be expelled on a national scale (Courtney, Terao, & Bost, 2004). Additionally, approximately 30-50% of children in care qualify for special education compared with 11.5% children not in foster care (Zetlin, MacLeod, & Kimm, 2012).
Joyce Meyer, a Christian author and speaker once spoke: “If you can help a child, you don’t have to spend years repairing an adult.” In America, there are many social issues that are neglected because they do not have a daily effect on each individual. As a result of this, one of these issues is the foster care system in America. Foster care is a program worldwide that helps neglected and abused children be put in safer homes through a brief period of time until a social worker allows the children to go back into their original home or be adopted by their foster parents or other individuals. According to http://www.adopt.org/what-foster-care, “Some will be separated from their siblings. Others will be bounced from one foster care placement
Today, in America, a child enters foster care every two minutes (“Statistics on Foster Care”). Thousands of children enter and exit the foster care system each year with some being adopted, some returning to their homes, and others being emancipated and set to be on their own (Statistics on Foster Care”). The foster care system was first put in place to take children out of overcrowded and underfunded orphanages. It was later transformed to help children from abusive, deceased or negligent families be put into a safer, non-permanent home (“Statistics on Foster Care”). With the thousands of kids put into foster care each year, many are sent to loving homes, however, some children are sent to neglectful and abusive homes that can be equal to or worse than their original living conditions. The current foster care system in place in the United States provides insufficient and unsafe care as well as causing short and long-term negative effects on the children placed in their care.
Although the minority, pregnant, uneducated people of the world could get all the free help they applied for. Like I said, I do agree with helping those in true need of assistance. However, there are too many people who are cradle to grave welfare recipients, and that just isn’t right. Somewhere in the system there needs to be a program in assisting those to get off of the system.
The second account of a changing stance toward children’s rights was evolution alongside women’s rights. Before this time, women and children were seen as unimportant under the law, whereas a father was given almost total control over all matters regarding his wife and children. If a father was violent or neglectful, society simply turned their shoulder to it. In the latter half of the nineteenth century, laws pertaining to the family system began to change. A new law recognized the equal rights of fathers and mothers with the mother’s rights reigning over the fathers in regards to the children. Also, the legal system began viewing children as important to the future of society, therefore “appropriate objects of the court’s
Some families are not able to provide childcare when they need it for their kid(s). “The cost and the scarcity of day care have helped create what sociologist Joya Misra calls “the motherhood penalty”” (Quart). Some families have to have only one income so that one parent could stay home to watch the kid(s). Single parents have to move in with their parents for help because they can not afford the care. People should not have to quit their jobs to take care of their kids when there are multiple daycare facilities.
Foster care refers to the out of home care of children aged between 0-17 years in Australia, who for a variety of possible reasons are no longer able to live with their primary caregiver.
Welfare should not be reformed because it helps single parents. 40 percent of single mothers are poor, 12 million single parents-mother-headed families are poor (Freeman). Welfare can help keep these single parent families stay stable to be an effective families. 12 million single parents mothers headed families can be reduced to less underachieving families with the assistants of welfare. Also with single parents they never had an significant other.
The intentions of welfare reform is simply to reduce dependency, reduce child poverty, and to strengthen marriages (in line citation website). However, taking away a low income families chance for help is not going to help their poverty. The idea of getting rid of the help a family needs, in order to help the family end their poverty is contradictory. This is more likely to leave families stuck in poverty, or even send them below if their aid gets removed.
55% of American mothers now return to work by the time their children are one years old -- out of either financial, professional, or personal necessity. In today’s society, there are concerns as to whether attending daycare during infancy produces negative or positive effects on the development of children. Many of these concerns are influenced by the fear that separating an infant from its mother may cause emotional harm to the child or disrupt the mother-infant bond. No study finds that children of employed mothers suffer solely because their mothers are working. Research has shown that mothers who work spend as much time playing with their babies as do mothers without outside jobs (Huston &
When families need child care for their children, it is important they get the child care that they need. Children who have spent more time in a child care have results from their experience. They will more likely show results including better math and reading scores, and social skills as well.
Should the government provide day care centers for working parents? Parents who are working hard to provide there family a good meal and to pay the rent, the least the government can do for these people is to help out a parent by providing free child care centers for working parents right? Guess what, the republicans and the democrats from congress have been doing something about it. There have at least been 70 bills that have been introduced by both of them, but it seems like the house of representative keep turning down every single one of them. (Noble) Government should pass a law that provides free daycare centers because that would be one thing less that the working parents would have to worry about. Free daycare centers will help a
