The Importance Of College Writing

Walking down Loras Boulevard with ease at the beginning of the semester to the bookstore for my first writing assignment, I captured my initial perspective of the College Writing course. My thoughts were it would be a smooth transition from my high school writing courses, and I would glide through the course with ease like my downward strides to the bookstore. However, over the past semester I have never been more challenged and intrigued by course material and assignments in a writing course. As I conquered the steep, upward hill of Loras Boulevard it portrayed the knowledge I already possessed, the new writing skills necessary to succeed in the class, as well as changes and growth in my writing style. In high school, I was in honors and AP English courses. As a senior in high school, my writing course was AP English Literature, and I wrote mainly in class based essays. I would be given a prompt or an article and then I would need to write a reflective paper on the topic. Also, the course covered skills in writing such as including the ethos, pathos, and logos in the writing. The audience for the writing assignments mainly was the teacher, however I also had a few presentations to the class. Papers were shared with classmates for peer editing too. In contrast, the College Writing course included a variety of new skills and challenging writing assignments. I learned how to organize an essay, so it reflected my ideas in a concise manner without the clutter. A paper
