In these short mortal lives, what matters more, community satisfaction or personal happiness? Any average human might say community satisfaction as that is the most logical choice of our nature. Humans by instinct are social creatures and of course we’d want to satisfy our community for the greater good, even if that means sacrificing a personal happiness as to keep that socialization as positive as possible. But what about us? What about my own satisfaction? Don’t I matter enough to be happy? Our lives are consistently filled with choices and even specifically, this moral dilemma. We are faced with two choices; “selfish” satisfaction or “conformist” compromise and it’s plagued our minds for generations. I have personally dealt with this issue as I’ve grown in this world. With nothing but a phrase repeated throughout my childhood I was sent on a self-analytical journey that would change me forever and was forced to deal with a personal fork in my road that lead to absolutely opposite outcomes. “You’re so smart. You should be a scientist.” he complimented with such naive conviction unaware of what he had just done. That was the first time I heard that phrase but definitely not the last and it had stuck with me. It's actually pretty funny how many times I heard that exact phrase repeated by completely different people. What’re the odds? Consistently, I heard kid after kid say that to me and from the very first time I heard it I begin to question my purpose in this world.
Beginning with Greek philosophers, mankind has constantly pondered the meaning of happiness. Questions of how to attain joy, and how to keep it have been debated for centuries. Various religions provide roadmaps to achieve contentment: Christians preach the Ten Commandments and Heaven, and Buddhists prize the idea of karma and reincarnation. Yet others seek a more material form of satisfaction; especially in the United States, increasing emphasis is placed upon personal wealth.
I read your essay about how you lost your happiness when you first came to the United States. I read it with my eyes wide open because I could connect the feelings I had when I came to U.S. I would like to get more details about your family. Did they feel the same as you? I think your main point is to show how meaningful relationships give you happiness. I like your decision that finally you learn how to blend to the society and you get your happiness back.
What is Happiness? Well, In Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley (great book by the way), the people that lived in this dystopian world, called World State, had a motto/goal that they believed that it provided them happiness; “Community, Identity, and Stability.” Which basically meant that you have no individuality, so that your community has stability. In addition to that, all they did was have sex and drugs which made them oblivious to how their “perfect” society is not so perfect. They also scientifically altered how humans reproduced, so instead of being born from the womb, people were being “born” from tubes, and in those tubes, they prepare you for the job or role you will be forced to do for the rest of your life. The best part? They use
The standard transformation from association focused to oversaw mind and on to individual wellbeing settings expands specialization and appropriation of performing artists and administrations identified with the soundness of patients or even residents before getting to be patients. As a result, broadened correspondence and collaboration is needed between all principals included in wellbeing administrations, for example, persons, associations, gadgets, frameworks, applications, and parts. Individual wellbeing (pHealth) situations go over numerous controls, where space specialists display their insight by utilizing area particular phrasings and ontologies. In this manner, the mapping of area ontologies is inexorable for guaranteeing interoperability.
To provide a contrast to humankind’s reliance on morals, let’s take a look at how decisions are made post realisation. Now that I have realised the truth, I don’t consult an arbitrary list of rules to see if my actions are ‘correct’, or to see if they will fit in with society’s expectations of what is right and wrong. My actions are now aligned perfectly to the Source.
We are always caring about ourselves and always making sure that we are the best at everything. But personally, the way I view things, life is made for us to enjoy these things. The idea of going out, looking at new things and hang with your friends and family is what we desire most. Instead of being cooped up in a house, it is much better to get out and have fun. That is what human nature is, we look forward to what fun new things we can do for the next day. We want to create a life where we are able to look back on and not regret. Which associates with what Hobbes said about us wanting more than happiness is security and stability. Security and stability leads to our happiness because it is something that is considered to be irresistible to human nature. Since society has already formed up this way and it's impossible to go back to who we were before.
Throughout the history of mankind, most people are still in search of a joyful lifestyle which goes back from philosophers like Aristotle and Socrates who had theories on how to fulfill human flourishing which is known as happiness. All this thoughts in their minds happened way back in 400 BC. Looking at present, a person like Chris McCandless made a decision to do a hitchhiking journey in order to pursue happiness. Happiness cannot be measured or beneficial but everyone else in the world are seeking to have the feeling of being pleased. Every person knows that they have happiness in them but it's very hard to achieve even though it’s easy to say that anybody can be happy. Just like water or air, it's difficult to grasp in your hand. Through simplistic living, being optimistic, and having content in life is the recipe of a real happiness.
The satisfaction or happiness of the human race has always been a central theme in the humanities. Life satisfaction is conceptualized as one of the cognitive components of subjective well being, and refers to the global judgments people make about the quality of their lives (Diener et al., 2003). This means that people can examine the condition in their lives, weigh the importance of these conditions and evaluate their lives on a scale ranging from satisfied to dissatisfied. The concept of life
Observance of low group moral prompted this community organizing effort. The three prominent behaviors shown were silence (a traditional Native response), an overabundance of an argumentative stance, and unprofessionalism during governmental meetings, exhibited even by elected officials at times. Minkler (2012) states, “issues to organize around can be found by talking with community members and trying out various themes” (Kindle Locations 2694-2695). Individual members were engaged, especially Elders, out of state members, IT head, and administrative staff, to gain insight into perspective concerns and generate goals. A public relations technique was used to target elected officials, which produced more concerns due their lack of response. Persistence over time was used to keep the issue constantly on the minds and hearts of community members. Social media posts were also created to generate momentum and reach members due to time constraints and logistics. A meeting agenda item request was sent to the Chief, which resulted in the item to be discussed. A presentation was made and a resolution in the event of a majority popular opinion to adopt the ICT component of governmental meetings.
As of right now, I think I am at a good place with my feelings of happiness. Instead of feeling sorry for myself over what I don’t have, I appreciate my life and all the wonderful parts of it. I have moments where I realize how fortunate I am for all the great opportunities I have had, along with the people I have been blessed to have in my life. One thing I seem to be lacking is the self motivation to work hard so I can improve the life I have. Not just for me in the present moment but for myself in the future. I want to work on this aspect of my life, so, like a long term investment, I can enjoy my efforts later on. I want to be at a place where I am grateful for what I have, but still work hard and strive for better.
Community is very important and has many factors like kinship, unity, and identity. Community helps society because it creates solutions, provides security and reveals dedication. It discovers truthfulness. Communities are part of everyday life and have positive affects on its members.
Every job in a community is designed to serve the community as a whole. With people like bank tellers who make deposits and withdraw money for customers, doctors and surgeons who work to cure patients, and teachers who make a living by aiding their students in education, it is easy to see how these citizens are of service to their community. But how do these men and women who faithfully assist and provide for their community retain their individuality? How are these people able to satisfy their interest while also satisfying the interests of the community? Take Ruston High School for example. At Ruston High School (RHS), students are encouraged to be actively involved members of the RHS student body. In the meantime, teachers inspire
A question many people ask themselves, is how can they reach a happy life. Is it as simple as seeking pleasure and avoiding pain? If that were the case, then all people who can go about their lives without fear of missing a meal or dying from the elements should be happy then right? Wrong. For years, all people, of all ages, and cultures, ultimately seek one thing, to be happy. To have satisfaction is to have all of your basic needs and desires met, but to be happy is something else entirely. This something else, is very hard to put our finger on and describe explicitly. What it means for us as humans to be happy here on earth, is to live a life for God and as faithfully to his wishes as possible. This means that in order to achieve the maximum happiness possible on earth, we must faithfully live just lives for God, in the hopes that one day we will achieve wholehearted happiness when we arrive at the pearly gates.
Religion is the devotion to a religious faith or observance and accumulates many followers. Today, thousands of religions exist including quakerism, Hinduism, Islam, mormonism, Baha'i faith and Atheism. As Zach Anner explored deeper into the different religions through soulpancake, religion was shown to be a catalyst of how many people live their lives. Religion is centered around how many people live their lives as they seek community, meaning, and family.
Life has many instances in which one must choose whether to stand apart from the group and disagree with his peers or to nod vehemently in agreement and quickly seek security as a part of the group. Many choose to follow the crowd because of the fear of rejection. They hang tightly to the bumper of the car of acceptance not worrying of the cuts and scrapes they are suffering as they struggle to hold on. Others painfully watch the car drive over the horizon and reassure themselves continually that it was worth it to stay behind. When we are older and look upon our past, we will realize that the courage to dissent or assent during our lifetimes can cause us either regret or contentment.
