Critical thinking is critical to business success and is the most desired skill in employees today (Neck, Houghton, & Murray, 2017, p. 11). Today’s business organizations are the most complex they have ever been. Businesses today are globalized, digitized and customized and the key to being successful is having the human capital to manage the complexity and find creative and innovative ways to not only create a competitive advantage, but sustain it. Critical thinking is defined by Critical Thinking Organization as, “a disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating, information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action” (National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking, 2015). Decision making is key to business and having the ability to sift through the deluge of information available and make reasonable, logical and sound decisions that positively impact business is necessary. Critical thinkers are not only the most desired employees, but building a culture of critical thinking is what will provide a competitive advantage to business and sustain that business into the future.
