The Music is On
The auditorium bell rang and the audience began to quiet down and take their seats. The dance teachers and class parents begged, “girls please stay quiet and stay in your order it’s about to begin.” The young dancers just kept twirling in their tutus and stomping their tap shoes against the marley floor of the stage. As the recital began, the giggling of the dancer’s excitement became more persistent. When the introduction ended it was time for the young tap class to take the stage, the curtain closed so they could get in the correct place. The curtain opened and the teacher said, “ladies your music is on.”
Dancing is not just a hobby or an art, some consider it a way of life. Dance is an escape from the outside world. It is a release of the stress and pressures that are happening in life. Dance has taught me to express myself, to be happy with life and has given me confidence. Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Without dance and my dance teachers/coaches, I would not be the person I am today.
Throughout my life, dance has taught me the importance of perseverance. To preserve one must be steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Perseverance is a key trait to have as a dancer. You need to be determined and push through even in the most difficult circumstances. Dance is unlike anything else. Dancers work all year to have 2 min and 50 seconds to show it off. A dancer uses every muscle in
Dancing gives me a place to be my self, and is my outlet from stress and daily life. The moment the song begins i am a mirror image of the piece, my arms swing high as the beat takes my feet away. I express whatever pain or hardship i am partaking in through a heart felt face. My love for dance led me to try out for Advanced Dance my junior year. Dance has allowed me to meet an amazing group of people, while letting me show off my goofy personality. Being able compliment a beautiful music piece singing or dancing is a rush like no other. Music is my life, and it has been a vice for me growing up. Choreographing and writing songs ignites the creator within me, theres no other satisfaction then watching a personal designed dance, or singing out
This sport is one very similar to many, but also very different. It holds true similarity through its athleticism, but it differentiates itself with many other sports through its artistic form. A dance can tell a story, give emotion, and hold a power all at once. There are many athletic qualities that make dance a sport. Two qualities regarding this are that they undergo many hours of strength training and conditioning, and the athletes show prominent and positive sportsmanship.
Dance is one of the major things that defines my identity and it is an interest that had become so meaningful, that without it my application would be incomplete. This has been able to shape me throughout the years, from discipline and maturity all the way yo leadership and teamwork. I find dance as an art work, that it is easy to make mistakes and fall, you just have to learn from those mistakes and get up twice as strong as from where you started. Dance is to look above and beyond and just let everything fall into place without hesitation.
I learned a lot of things that lead me to who I am today, and yes maybe I am not the best girl in the world, maybe I am not the kindest, or the prettiest, but I am who I am and if people are not okay with that then I don’t need those people in my life. People who don’t dance just see dance as it is. Steps, and more steps. Us, dancers see the movements of the dance and go deeper into their story. To us, each little movement we make means something and as the audience is looking at us and seeing our pain and or happiness, they see the story we are telling behind the movements and the music. I can say I learned how to be someone that anyone can trust, someone who is there for you no matter the situation. I learned how to overcome my worst fears, and learned that is okay to fail. What’s not okay is to be a shadow when the light is in the stage pointing at you. To shut yourself down, and not accomplish what you
I was a dancer for fourteen years, beginning at the age of four and ending at the age of 18. I participated in basically every type of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, and contemporary. Each year, I would participate in more classes than the last, and it eventually got to the point where I would be attending dance classes five or six days of my week. It definitely got tiring, but I still loved it. Dance is a great way to be able to portray emotions through movement, and I think that is very unique and special to participate in. It was a very huge part of my life, and so were the people teaching me. Dance and everything that came with it was a huge influence on my life, and it helped shaped me into the person I am today.
Dance is one of the most beautiful, expressive forms of art known to mankind. It expresses joy, love, sorrow, anger, and the list truly goes on for all the possible emotions that it can convey. Dance not only can express how one feels, but it can tell a story or even be used to praise a higher power. Dance has intricately played an important role to every culture over the course of time. Two forms of dance that have not only stood against the test of time but have influenced the development of other various styles of dance is none other than Classical Ballet and Modern Dance.
Dancers must have strong core muscles, strong arms, strong legs, and so on. Dr. McNitt-Gray said, “Dancers are some of the toughest athletes in the world.”
Modern dance was created as a rebellion against the prevalent dance forms of the time, ballet and Vaudeville. It is a form of theatrical dance, known for its continual fusion of non-western style and ideas, which allows for a fresh source of movement inspiration. Choreographers rejected what they classified as the inflexible and imperialistic nature of ballet, and in order to be taken seriously as artists rather than simple entertainers they created a new art form. Artists Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth St. Denis are considered to be the pioneers of modern dance in America. Dance is a social institution, recognized as being an important function in civilized life. The following essay will focus on the theory and work of artist Isadora Duncan, while incorporating lecture notes and articles of both authors Sally Bane and Ann Daly to explain the historical situations that culminated in the development of early modern dance. Arising from the 20th century modern dance was a form of cultural collaboration and exploration, as well as a resistance to colonial repression. Modern dance allowed for the experimentation of the new as well as a freer form of dance movement. Choreographers drew on exotic sources, and example of this illustrated in the work of Isadora Duncan with her use of Greek culture as a movement inspiration. Artists act as both the choreographer and performer creating their own conventions, or dance language.
People dance because they want to do it for fun and not as a career or anything, just for enjoyment and because they’re bored. This is why they have school dances and recitals, because people are bored and just want to do something fun. This is where people are wrong. Dance is a sport and an art because of the enjoyment and excitement they put into the dance. Also dance is simply a game of memory.
It takes both an athlete and an artist to be able to dance. Dance requires you to have muscular strength, flexibility, physical and emotional endurance. People usually question why dancers love what they do when there is a whopping 80% of professional dancers that get injured every year. The answer is simple though, what keeps them going though is the constant love and encouragement from friends and family.
Dancing has a unique connection to the world and the people around you. It can push you to your physical limits or it can bring you peace of mind. I am classically trained dancer, and I love all dance as a whole. Dancing whether its ballet, modern, or dancing for fun can be a spiritual experience. When I
As a member of a dance, I had to understand the importance of teamwork. Seeing there was many people in dance, so there had to be a cooperative effort to achieve a common goal. It became quite challenging seeing people learn at different paces and I am a slow learner. Only I had to learn to respect the value of teamwork and my fellow dance numbers. Each and every class we all worked for a same goal, we became dedicated and devoted. Our teacher would help us develop our abilities with leadership. As leadership is necessary to ensure that a team's accomplishments are not misguided but achieved. I once believed a dancer is someone who is just doing weird movements, but is actually someone who is admired. The balance between teamwork itself is admired. It all pays off when we dance on stage.
Mastering every skill from a routine you spent hours a day trying to create by a certain time frame along with all the pressures that comes your way. I would never give up dancing, no difficult teacher, dance move, or partner will ever change that. It will always be that one thing in the world that will always mean something to me. I have been doing it almost all of my life. No matter the drastic changes come into my life.
Dance has been a natural movement form since the beginning of time. The origin of dance is unknown, just as the knowledge of the benefits of dance are unknown to many in our society. Many people do not enjoy dancing and also do not fully understand the positive benefits that come from dancing. Researchers such as Edwards, Duberg, and many more have found countless mental and emotional benefits of dance that originate from movement patterns, brain connections, and even expressions of emotion. Many are aware of the physical benefits of dance, but beyond the physical benefits of dance, there are also emotional and mental benefits that come from dance as well.
In one my classes; Dance Appreciation, I had an assignment to view a dance piece on YouTube. The dance that I viewed was called “She without arm, he without leg, Hand in Hand”. The dance was not only informative, but it was enlightening to watch.
