To collect data for my experiment I am going to look at my Facebook profile and find 50 of my friends who are between the ages of (18-30) and (31 and older) and see what they have posted about kneeling during the National Anthem. This will ensure that I get a large enough sample size in order to accurately represent the age groups that I selected to look at their views on kneeling. In order to insure I’m not self-selecting the people I look at I will be typing into the search bar, NFL National Anthem Protests which will show the latest posts by my “friends”. To define post for the experiment, I will be looking at any post that is written or shares an opinion about kneeling during the National Anthem. This means that I will not be looking …show more content…
When marking age range, I will either have a Y which represents young or O which represents Old. To mark opinions, I will use the 3 categories (agrees with, in the middle, or against) in relation to kneeling for the National Anthem. Tracking reasoning is more difficult but I will look at key words and statements like disrespectful, freedom of speech, soldiers, flag, social justice, suspension, rights, and doesn’t matter. to better organize the data into more observable categories. With all of these being in a chart it will allow me to keep track of my information and keep my personal bias out of the experiment as I won’t be giving my own commentary on the outcomes but simply reporting what the opinions of the post show. I feel this is important because if I were to write comments on each post my own personal beliefs could come into play and that would skew the data and information that I’m collecting. Lastly, I will record the number of comments on the post and anything significant that said in the comments as it will be important for me to note for the discussion. What I’m looking for in my experiment is how the different age ranges effect people’s opinions on a political and social topic that is very popular currently. In order to find this from the data I collect I will first record the amount of posting of Facebook articles and how that correlates to the age range. However, after this I will look beyond the surface and analyze the persons reasoning and
They will be high school students that will be randomly selected from a high school population. All participants will be about the same age, all high school students, and intelligence level since they will all be attending the same high school. The participants will be selected randomly from a high school population. The experiment will be conducted in the same way for all of the groups. Additionally, the same amount of M&Ms will be eaten by each participant during the experiment.
I conducted a survey, asking 20 females and 20 males their favorite food group for my AP Statistics project. I surveyed on Wednesday, September 27 and on Thursday, September 28 at Marshall High School. They chose from protein, grain, vegetables, fruit, and dairy. From the data, I found that 10 males and 2 females liked protein best, 3 males and 2 females liked grains best, 1 male and 1 female liked vegetables best, 3 males and 13 females liked fruit best, and 3 males and 2 females liked dairy best. Half of the males liked protein best, while most females liked fruits best. The least amount of both males and females liked vegetables. From this data, we can see that males like protein more than females do, and females like fruit more than males
The kneeling for the national anthem is a widely controversial topic. It has been widely talked about in sports and politics. The protests sparked up when a former NFL quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, sat down during the national anthem and then began to take a kneel. The meaning of taking a kneel is to protest against racial discrimination, especially with recent events in the hands of law enforcement. It is also known to go against racial and social injustice. However, not being educated on the meaning behind the protest brings up the controversy among the kneeling of the national anthem. Jackie Robinson, who was the first African American in baseball, wrote in his autobiography (I Never Had It Made) explained he simply could not stand and sing the anthem. He also stated he could not salute the flag because he recognizes himself as a black man in a white world. Although it has been around for years, it is becoming a more talked about protest, because of how many people are doing it on live television. It is also being done by credible people who many fans look up to. In my rhetorical analysis I want to evaluate three different bias examples of the national anthem protest. I decided to take a look into the controversy among news articles like CNN, Dailymail, and ProCon.
al to be the best part of reading this week. Research was designed well to control for multiple variables, and the randomization component helped look at pooling over and other factors that needed to be considered. I found through class discussion how frustrating it can be to come up with what to measure, and how to measure it. Quantifying things like voter intent is difficult. With most research we have read and discussed, I find it hard to understand controlling for voters who would have voted anyway. When social scientists “count” their vote in research, is it skewing the data at
My study displays how people from several categories have differing opinions about racists teaching in the education system. It can help determine peoples’ attitudes toward race in the schools. However, there were some of the limitations to my study. One was that I could not interview and interact with the respondents personally. I was not able to ask in depth questions as to why people felt a certain way about racist teachers. Also, I wanted to know if the respondents surveyed ever had any interaction with a teacher that was deemed to have racist attitudes towards them or a family member. It would have been nice to study the information based on location of the respondents polled. This would further help understand the attitudes people have towards race based off of geographical location. There are some behaviors that people perceive to be racist and talking with people individually would help get all of this information. I ran multiple cross-tabulations to help me in my study on allowing racist teachers in the education system. These were using the independent variable allowing racist to teach and the dependent variables, education, race and sex.
polluted (omit this word). Doing this will give an accurate answer to determine if there is a link of placing low income families in hazardous areas. There will be a consent form needed even though the only participants that will be taking the survey will be adults. Participants will know the exact reason as to why the survey is being held. The survey will be written in two languages English and Spanish. According to those that are considered low income, Hispanics are proved to outweigh Blacks and Whites. (Can you cite this finding?).
When a national figure such as Colin Kaepernick refuses to stand for the National Anthem. It shocks people into paying attention and generates conversation, exactly what Kaepernick wanted (ProCon). Kaepernick’s protest has not just impacted the NFL, but other athletes and high schools are fighting too. A few NFL players have not been kneeling, but seen raising their fists during the national anthem. Mimicking the 1968 black-power protest of the Black Panthers. Professional basketball players are linking arms together and soccer player Megan Rapione is taking a knee during the anthem. High schoolers in Nebraska, Kentucky, Virginia, Illinois, Minnesota, and Maryland are following Kaepernick’s lead as well (Levin). Social media also playing a major part, this gives a voice to strong opinions on both sides, including a group of thirty-five US veterans. They stated “that it is far from disrespecting our troops, and there is no finer form of appreciation for our sacrifice than for Americans to exercise their freedom of speech”
My topic is the evaluation of how the income levels and wealth of members of Congress affects the bias of voting history and influences members to vote certain ways. I will be gathering data on members of Congress’ wealth and voting history. This topic is relevant because it will either prove that there is a correlation between the net worth of a Congressman and how if anything do his assets affect his voting (i.e. do subsidies influence voting records?).
Take your chart that you created and write an essay explaining to me why you chose this item, why you chose the specific ones that you evaluated, and what your findings were. Make sure each topic has its own paragraph. This will be a complete writing so make sure you take your rough draft, revise it, edit it, and then submit once you have the final copy perfected.
C2 - The experiment I would conduct would be to test the sympathy of millennials to see if it has risen or lowered in the past couple decades. I would conduct this test by having a test person, Independent Variable, fall every 15 minutes and drop stuff. The dependent variable would be the
I chose to do my survey project on something I am very passionate about, music. Particularly Hip-Hop, Rhythm & Blues, and Trap Music. The directions were to survey one hundred people and ask them weather or not they liked the three things I chose to ask them about. Out of the one hundred people I surveyed, ninety one people, were a fan of Hip-Hop, 78 were a fan of Rhythm & Blues, and 65 were a fan of Trap Music. The people surveyed were allowed to like more than one of the sub-genres, or even none at all. Following the survey, I am writing a research paper on where the genres came from and their influence on society.
Our world is constantly changing to where some old gender values are shifted for a new. Examples of those values might be women’s rights, rights for homosexuals and others that are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and other minorities in the world today. In four separate projects, our class analysed data collected by the entire class about 4 different aspects of gender roles and different races in our society. One fact that caught my attention came from the project asking on single question. The results of the question showed that people in our society today are possible more accepting of a homosexual being a doctor than a women. (Postel & Group, The Quandary) I plan to analyze the results of the question as well as other facts from the other
One of the best ways to study my theory would be using free association and idiographic analysis. It is important for therapist to listen to their clients and the way they may be feeling. When free association is used so the client will be able to express any emotions that they have toward a particular goal, most importantly the client must be able to feel a positive relationship with the therapist, family and friends, in order to overcome any obstacles.
Students were randomly assigned to groups that had a topic of all whites, with race, or majority of race. A couple of things that changes from study one was the topic, two black confederates. The reason for this is to better understand how having people of multiple races can impact the thought process. Another thing that was changed is the topics in order to reduce the possibility of lack of diversity when it comes to groups that involve someone of that race. Another change that was added to the procedures was that right after learning about the topic, the participants were asked to write a personal statement about what you believe when it comes to said topic. The results once again indicated that white college students benefited when being in a group that involved someone of a different race. Overall both studies had similar traits to the one that I created. As a whole I was not surprised that the results indicated races improved thinking because that’s what I thought would happen in the first
For example, throughout the duration of data collection, psychology was never directly taken into account. The original hypothesis emphasized mathematics and beauty, that certain proportions equaling the golden ratio would result in surveyors believing the celebrities closest to those proportions to be the most attractive. However, if the experiment were to be conducted again or conducted with modifications psychology should be taken in account along with attractiveness. This modified experiment would allow experimenters to determine whether or not and/or much race, gender, and age of the focus group effect attractiveness or one’s perception of beauty. The original experiment could be simply adjusted by altering the independent variable to the race, gender, and age of the surveyors and keeping the dependent variable the same (average rate of attractiveness).
