While they each argue different views on how those implications have benefitted or hindered the language, they all agree on the fact that the language is ever-changing.

Our community and world is forever changing. Through the years our classrooms are looking more and more different. There isn’t just one type of student anymore. Australia is an extremely culturally diverse country, therefore many different languages are spoken in homes and communities across Australia. Consequently many primary school students are learning English as an additional language. EAL/D is an acronym used to refer to students whose first language is a language or dialect other than Standard Australian English; that is English is an additional language or dialect. In Australian schools it is essential students are able to speak and read English in order for them to understand and succeed in all content learning areas.

Nowadays, English has a significant role in the society. Person in the world has been aware about the usefullness of English because of that role. The people are enthusiastics to be able to use English in their lives. Therefore, the major of English has been one of the most favorite majors for the learners, especially in the university level. Moreover, this fact makes a great impact on the number of the learners that want to take major of English.

I was born in Vietnam. I left Vietnam to come to United State with my family when I was about 12 years old. I was really young at the time. It was a long time ago because I am 20 years old now. At that time, life for me was simple. I didn’t have to worry about anything. I stop going to school in Vietnam at grade five and stay at home for two years. It was really fun while I was at home. When I was at home, my parent wants me to learn English. So I learned English in Vietnam. When I got to United State, I started middle school at United for Success in Oakland. I start school in Oakland at grades 7. It was after Christmas when I started class. Over here, it really different than my home country. In my country Vietnam, It was really hot.

Learning about money management started at home with my mother. We save throughout the year for Christmas by depositing loose change into a jar. Our savings determine what new electronics are within grasp Christmas. This taught me to become actively involved in determining how I would like to spend my money. I always research the best bargains so that this money can buy the various items I desire at an acceptable price.

From the years 2009 to 2013, the United States’ number of foreign language enrollment diminished significantly. Voulez-vous apprendre une langue étrangère? In the post 2013 findings, we saw that the U.S. dropped 111,000 spots meaning that only 7 percent of college students are enrolled in a foreign language. Since this is the first drop since 1995, people are in a flurry to find out who is to blame. Being the Head of the student committee charged with recommending how to best update and adapt the University of Oregon’s foreign language departments and courses, it is my job to resolve this problem. With my set of skills I bring to the table there is no doubt we will resolve these problems. After doing some light research about foreign language in the United States I saw some information that states, “the vast majority—95 percent—of all language enrollments were in a European language. This is just one indicator demonstrating the shortcomings and inequalities in language education today.” This data illustrates the need for foreign language in our world more than ever before and is showing us what has happened so far and a peek into the future if we do not stop now. This ultimately leaves me with one question, Should the University of Oregon require all students, regardless of degree to take a foreign language?

There are almost seven thousand different languages in the world. Some languages like Mandarin or Hungarian are those more difficult to learn and English is nowhere near their level of difficulty. Say a fluent Spanish speaker migrates to an English-speaking country like the United States, it may be a difficult transition for the individual to learn English even though that language may be one of the easier languages learn. A non-English speaker that immigrates to America may be able to get by in the U.S. without learning the language or with the help of other immigrants. Therefore, one must take ownership of a language which means that one must be accountable for success. Obtaining ownership of a language is a necessity in order for an immigrant to possess a strong cultural identity and it is found to be more useful for everyday situations.

English Language Learners (ELL) are students who are learning English as a second language. These students are put into a regular classroom setting with no proper curriculum for ELL’s to learn English properly. Their ability to understand the language is minimum, reading levels are below their own grade level, writings are done incorrectly and their form of speech as well. The effects in not learning English properly prevents them from advancing in Math, English and other subjects. Besides this becoming an obstacle ELL’s also face scoring low in exams and assignments done poorly. If this issue prolongs being fixed into a proper way it’s long term effects will affect these students. The importance in separating ELL students into a separate classroom will increase their ability to advance faster in their academic needs. I do not think it is wrong for these students to be placed in a different classroom because doing this can improve their understanding in English.

People in the world changed their behavior and thinking as times go passed. For example, people the more they practice on reading and writing, the more they have knowledge about the concept. In my experiences in learning English, I have gained some skills throughout my studying year. It is because time is the main key to become an expert in something that we are constantly doing. In those time, we will learn something new that we have never learned before however, as time passed we will become more familiar with what we been doing. In my essay 1, I said “Nobody is born to be smart, intelligent to know everything. We all started from step zero where we do not know anything about the world which is full of unique things”. According to this quote, I claimed that everyone needs to take their time to learn new things because the more time we take, the better be in what we are doing. While I am learning to improve my writing style, I still have failure because I did not the real definition of academic writing and reading. However, there is one thing I learned throughout this semester; revision is the main key to success in academic reading and writing.
