Evidence-Based Management (EBM) is founded on taking out the emotion, speculation, opinion, prejudice as well as personal experience, from the decision-making process. Evidence-Based Management is a professional business system that only considers the facts, statistics, and confirmation to solve problems. Regarding healthcare, the new “guarantee-payment” system for managers of the Medicare era, it was not necessary to have essential business proficiencies. The United States healthcare industry has over 5,000 hospitals staffed with clinical managers who lack high-level professional skills needed to be successful. As a country, we do not possess the desired skill-set for the job at hand. This has caused data overload for professional healthcare workers. In the beginning, evidence from research was not generally available because appropriate resources were nonexistence. In the past 20 years, with the introduction of the internet, healthcare has changed at rapid pace. The internet has become a central tool in healthcare decision-making process. “Healthcare decisions can range from opinion based, with little attention to evidence from research to evidence based, where decisions are developed from research” (Bhargava, 2007). In order to make the best decisions in healthcare management, valid evidence-based management is an important part of that process. The researcher believes that healthcare managers do too much by chance rather than by design or scientifically (i.e. evidence-based), which contributes to functioning at low reliability.
