“Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark”- Unknown. The America that I believe in a place that knows it has troubles but has the faith that we will get to the bright side. Where we have the right to vote and decide who’s going to run this country. Even though sometimes we don’t like the candidate we still have faith that they will do the job well. Where we have a choice to join the military, or what job we have. The America that I believe in is one where we are not judged by how we look, what gender we are, or where we come from. The America that I believe is a country unlike any other.
“Freedom would be meaningless without security in the home and in the streets”-Nelson Mandela. The America that I believe in is
Faith, defined as a strong belief in something which cannot be proven, has been argued over countless generations. Still, even without proof, individuals worldwide hold true to their faith each day. After studying faith and religion in texts written by scholars with varying backgrounds, it is easy to see faith is something which is widely disputed. Comparison of Sigmund Freud’s The Future of an Illusion and Paul Tillich’s Dynamics of Faith, fully displays the discrepancies in points of view on the function of faith, as well as the necessity of faith, in society; while the comparison of Viktor E. Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning and Karl Marx’s “on the Future of Religion,” demonstrate both similarities and differences
As American essayist and social critic H.L. Mencken wrote, “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” To be free is to have the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint. This type of freedom can be offered in many places whether it be home, school, or work. Safety is the condition of being protected from or unlikely to because risk, danger, or injury. Safety should be seen as an advantage to have because it’s never truly guaranteed. Most people claim they are proud of the freedoms their nations offer, though many people manifest the willingness to give up these freedoms to secure personal safety.
This essay examines “How Faith influenced the United States Constitution in the Late 18th Century.” This essay begins by introducing the United States Constitution and the Founding Fathers, and reveals the general connection each has to Christianity through the Puritan’s separation from England. The Founding Fathers and the U.S. Constitution are analyzed so that these elements may be investigated as to illustrate parallels between biblical principles and the substance of the document and the faith of America’s founding fathers.
The idea of America is one that is complex while remaining undeniably simple. Freedom is at the core of this country’s existence. Without freedom the United States of America would be just another continent, no different from any other sovereignty that lies on this planet. Believing that people were
Whether it be in the national anthem or in the lyrics of well known songs, the idea of America being a shelter and safe haven of freedom is positively ingrained in her citizens. Despite such widespread faith, belief alone cannot force the truth value of something. Even if an entire country believes a certain proposition, the collective agreement is not conducive to truth. This status of wide held belief and possible untruth is becoming a property of many things in modern day America. This shift can be seen in things such as quality of education, methods of policing, safety, and some would even say such core ideas like the American dream are legitimately in question.
What is freedom? Most people believe that freedom and Liberty have the same meaning, Liberty means being able to act on your own will as long as it does not mess up someone else’s right to act on their own will. Most conscientious people believe this to be the way civilization should work. The America I believe in is an America where people are not apprehensive to walk around outside, where we do not must hide ourselves because there are wars going on in the streets. The America I believe in is an America where all of us are free and everyone is all thankful for it.
Spirituality is one of the most important aspects of life to some communities, cultures, and nations. People who believe in God usually become more spiritual as they age. In American societies, the mosques and churches have older people than younger people. In most cases, we become more spiritual or at least start looking for religious answers when we are faced with a death in the family. In a study by Moremen,(2005), 26 older women who had not experienced a life changing even or recent death in their families were interviewed on their views in terms of “their place” in society” and the “order of things”. None of the participants were facing a terminal illness. The majority stated that they wanted to understand things and were looking towards
Religion and spirituality have been complex issues in the United States of America. This is especially true when it comes to Native Americans. Since the 16th century, contact between Native Americans and Europeans has been filled with both good and bad. In this paper, the issue of religion and spirituality and how they figure into the story of Indian-European contact between the 16th and 21st centuries will be discussed.
The functionality of America would not be as novel or ingenious without religion, a monumental influence in the building of the United States. If we trace back hundreds of years to colonial times, religion acted as the absolute driving force that convinced colonists that America was the new haven they had been looking for. It also contributed long lasting moral, social, and political impacts seen in countless movements reflecting the christian ideals of truth, life without sin, and altruism, or good works. Lastly, religious liberty is a major campaign so trite that one will find religious tolerance laws in every state as well as various religious tolerance groups with ease. Patently, the rudiments of religion are responsible for shaping
Religion has played a large role throughout History. Entire nations have been founded on the ideals of one religion or another, and many wars have been fought purely for religious reasons. In fact there are wars still going on that are almost completely religiously motivated. New Religions may form, old religions may die or change, but they will always be a part of our culture and society. Religion always seems to play a large role in the formation of societies and cultures, and the history of the United States is no different from that of the rest of the world. Religion played a major role in the formation of the United States of America. More specifically between 1607 when
Faith Daniel is a forty-six-year-old Chinese female resident of Montgomery, Texas. Faith was born in the Philippines. However, she is profoundly influenced by her Chinese ancestry. Faith has three sisters. Faith has a teaching degree and has taught in the private school sector. She can speak English, Mandarin, French, and knows sign language. Her ancestors moved from China to the Philippines due to a World War. Male children are valued more in the Chinese culture than females because males carry on the family name. Therefore, when Faith 's mother was pregnant with her fourth female child she was offered to trade her child with a cousin 's male child. Faith 's parents refused to give up their daughter. The refusal to trade for a male baby was a significant disgrace for the family. Consequently, her father moved his family to the United States of America where her mother instilled the importance of education in each of her daughters. She considers her father 's decision to move the family to the United States of America as a significant event that shaped her life. She feels that she and her sisters are much more educated than cousins that eventually moved to the country later in their lives. Faith possesses a fascinating set of life experiences along with an intriguing Chinese culture that has influenced her character.
“American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us,” by Robert D. Putnam and David E. Campbell, and “America and the Challenges of Religious Diversity,” by Robert Wuthnow, give different thoughts to religion and politics in the United States. Putnam and Campbell utilize the concepts of shocks and aftershocks to highlight religious changes in the United States. On the other hand, Wuthnow uses observations to focus on the encounters of religious diversity in the United States. Wuthnow compares American Christianity with other popular religions in America and how Christianity has affected the perception of religion. Putnam and Campbell’s “American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us” is a more persuasive assessment of American religion and politics.
