What Fleming College and its students have in common is that students are top priority. Fleming wants its students to succeed, while the students themselves want to succeed. So they can move on to bigger and better things. The newly implemented fee has present and future students wracking their brains trying to figure out how they are going to pay this large amount of money. Now this may not seem serious for Fleming but it is to the students who have to scrape by during their college years. Many students may have to take drastic measure and use money that was saved for bills, rent, and even food. Worst case scenario students will not be able to afford college and either have to drop out or, wait to attend college till they have the funds.
Funny how everything can change in an instant. From death to life,. From empty to full. From darkness to light” - Megan Miranda. Almost 23 years ago on September 11, 2001, a group of nineteen terrorists hijacked a total of four commercial planes, crashing two into the Twin Towers.
Throughout my reading on the article by Kinchen there were many new and great findings brought to my attention. I had never knew anything about the history of Edward Waters College or really heard about it. She opened my view and understanding of what this schools history was all about. I found out about many opportunities of the school back then when it was first instituted with all women. This school was opened to set slaves free and become educated from their previous lifestyles they had gone through. During my reading, Kinchen displayed various of themes and points she came across overtime while experiencing at Edward Waters. In this paper I will be gladly to talk about some of them and what she tried to convey.
The question you might ask yourself is “ Why would a transparent Freeport girl want to go to Lone Star - Kingwood , whenever we have a great community college locally here in Brazoria county ? “ This might sound a harsh , but Brazosport college is not good enough for me. Apart from being raised here for most of my life , I do not have any wants to live here if I don’t have to. My own personal idea of what the problem is that Brazosport college gets the people of Brazoria county comfortable with staying in their area. Therefore, I will not be a victim of comfortability.
Tuition is put in place for a reason. It shouldn’t be lifted because if it is the government will end up having to come out of more money to fund the things that more of the college students need as such as books, computer labs etc. By the government needing more funding that would mean the taxpayers taxes would have to increase without their say so it wouldn’t even be an option.
First of all, the money issue is the big problem to the government. Taxpayers are one of the treasury account for government to withdraw the money and provided the fund to school. I know that all the taxpayers will burden out the amount of money they have to deducted on their check. They obviously not agree with what the government doing, so they have to rejected free community college tuition opinion. But if they take a step back and think about their children, whose go to school and need to pay the tuition for the school. So the tuition fee will still a burden to all the parents
In this article, Wiener emphasizes her points on how in the past college tuition was much cheaper, and it should’ve continued to be that way. For example, when Ronald Reagan term was over in 1975 college tuition was $647 at the University of California and in 2010 I was nearly $10,000! He goes on to explain how the U.S could make college tuition cheaper if they follow and take the initiative that the state of Tennessee did. And that was to used money from the state lottery and put it towards a college education. He questioned why countries like Germany, Sweden, and Finland can afford free tuition but the U.S can’t? In summary, no tuition for college would help a lot and shut down more for-profit institutions throughout the U.S.
According to TED; The Economics Daily, tuition and fees increase 63% since January of 2006. Some people believe that the cost of college tuition is acceptable. However, college tuition cost is too high. They ought to be lowered and made affordable to all. College tuition cost is too high, a high tuition can prevent some students from receiving college education, forces some to take out loans, and ultimately can cause future financial instability.
With this increase in tuition costs it is making a college education more and more unaffordable and putting students in more debt.
Compared to just 10 years ago, in-state public university tuition has risen a dramatic increase of 40% — about $2700 (“Tuition and Fees and Room and Board over Time”). At the university level, in-state college is the cheapest option. However, in regards to the inflation of the decade, only 15%, university tuition is substantially higher for families today (“Archived Consumer Price Index Detailed Report Information”). Students and families are now paying a 25% higher price for in-state college than those just 10 years ago. Consequently, this has
Higher education costs have been increasing at a rapid pace, faster than inflation for the economy as a whole, for the past fifty years. It started in the 1960’s when the federal government passed the Higher Education Act to increase the amount of people able to afford and attend college. Regardless of the Unites States Government efforts to increase the affordability of college, federal aid programs have not risen to expectations due to the ever-increasing college prices. To lower the price of college, the government needs to cut back on student financial spending to go only to the lowest income families and create tax incentives for families to start saving up on their own.
As a result of this, states receive pressure to make up for this and must raise tuition. Grant donors are also becoming less generous in their contributions to students as well. This makes affording college even harder for students.
The tuition increases have come in response to the lack of federal funding to universities, leading them to find their own way to provide for their upkeep. “Recent increases in university tuition fees are part of a new entrepreneurial trend in higher education in which institutions are expected to generate more of their own revenue” (Quirke). The universities have decided that since they can no longer look towards federal funds to fuel their costs of maintenance and revenue, they must find a new route towards attaining much needed funds, and they have chosen to

College tuition has been an increasingly intense topic of discussion over the years. The costs of higher education have been debated by many people, and it has been discussed as to whether costs are becoming too high for students to afford. College has become more and more popular, and now as many as 20 million students attend universities reported by The National Center for Education Statistics (1). The value of a college degree is immense, but college tuition is becoming too expensive for students to afford, and furthering the problem are students’ lack of knowledge on how to pay and earn money towards their college degree.
College tuition is a subject that I am certain is on every college student's mind. The current cost of college has become so outrageously high and so students are graduating college with what you think is a feeling of excitement for their lives starting, when in reality they are entering a pool of stress due to high amounts of debt and no job guarantees. With that being said overly expensive College Tuition is merely taking away opportunities from potential students. According to Collegefactual.com, you will see that 20 years ago the average college tuition for a student at any University was around $6,285 for the room, board, and tuition. Today, according to Niche.com, the average tuition for almost any college is over $30,000 for those same things. Today, this isn't even offered for those same colleges, we don’t even know what is actually causing the raising tuition. At this point in time, we are paying for the name. Just like clothing, we pay more for the “high end” (a.k.a the college name) items. This is an issue that not only affects college students, but people who want a good education. College tuition should be lowered because the average student debt is too high, FAFSA results can be misleading and not high enough, and there is not enough access to college for deserving students.
