Within the current healthcare system there is a large emphasis on health promotion to reduce the incidence of diseases occurring in the population. Health promotion is a broad term that can include encouraging individuals to eat healthier to prevent obesity or getting patients to quit smoking to prevent lung cancer from developing. Therefore, in order for the health promotion techniques to work it is important to deliver the information in a manner that is specific to the target audience. There are several factors that need to be considered when delivering education to an individual and the most factors is likely the person’s willingness to change (National Cancer Institute, 2005). Ultimately if the learner does not want to learn or change their behaviour they will likely not be receptive to the information. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to analyse a health promotion material and determine if it is an appropriate education tool. When it comes to health promotion there is a huge advantage to speaking to individuals when they are young to detour behaviours before they are even portrayed (Ward, & Verrinder, 2008). Accordingly, this can be used then teaching young adults the importance of safe alcohol consumption before they develop bad habits, which can be particularly hard to modify later in life (text.)
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of created a factsheet online with the idea that other institution will print and post these fact sheets in their facilities. Consequently, the document focuses on the amount of alcohol and other drugs to consume to remain at a safe level. The purpose of this document is to educate individuals on what excessive drinking is as well as the consequences of excessive drinking for a prolonged period of time. Accordingly, it describes what a standard drink is and uses language that is intended for higher educated individuals with some visuals that would be beneficial to younger adults.
