I would like to sincerely thank the members of the 11th Calvary who have served our great country. I recognize the great sacrifices you have endured which have afforded me with the opportunity to be bestowed with the honor of being a recipient of the 11th Armored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia scholarship. I am honored and beyond grateful to receive this scholarship in memory of Ricky Fay Cossey. I will honor Mr. Cossey’s memory by using the scholarship to complete my education at Regis University, College of Business and Economics where I will graduate with a degree in business and management. It is my goal to honor Mr. Cossey, my father and all of the other great men and women who have served our country by utilizing my education
Colonial honor codes, both the traditional elite and alternative plebeian, supposedly dictated everyday life, but in reality this failed to hold true. Contestation of these rigid codes commonly occurred as society struggled to conform to the binary of moral and immoral, honorable and dishonorable, and masculine and feminine. Transgressions exploited the contradictory nature of the colonial system of power by claiming rights for the most oppressed, as evidenced with women finding powerful allies in the clergy. Working within the system yet simultaneously transgressing it, exemplified spectacularly through Catalina de Erauso, proved itself the most effective form of undermining the rules because it allowed one to validate one’s freedom through pre-established institutionalized structures.
Honor is one of those concepts that is seldom defined. One’s reputation is based on his or her honor, integrity, honesty, and purity. William Shakespeare’s Henry IV is a one of his many plays that deal with the varying ideas of honor, as well as issues of courage, loyalty, and ambition, interposing examples of dishonor, weakness, and the deceitful plots among both the drunkards and noblemen. Shakespeare utilizes suggestive metaphors to create illusions, imagery, and to reinforce the different views of the major issues people were faced with in his time and in ours. His plays often focus on the imagery, either on some obvious important symbol, or some image pattern that recurs throughout the work. Readers are

This book is an emotional roller coaster ride. The moment you start to read this book, you can no longer put it back down. The author of the book “ On My Honor” made opposite characteristics for Tony and Joel. The opposite characteristics of the two characters really caused the plot to be like an emotional roller coaster ride. Joel has the characteristics of a cautious, smart, and usually honest boy. (Bauer, 1) Joel yelled, “ CLIMB THE STARVED ROCK BLUFF? YOU’VE gotta be kidding! Joel’s spine tingled at the mere thought of trying to scale the sheer river bluffs in the state park”. On the other hand, Tony is a self-centered, daredevil, and unintelligent boy. (Bauer, 1) Tony just casually says, “ Nobody even knows if the guy was really trying to climb the bluffs.” Tony just says that as if dying on the Starved Rock is like eating a piece of cake! In all, the details and characteristics put into the story allow readers to understand the story a lot better.
The transitions into Longwood University, during New Lancer Days encourage growth, installed a higher level of patience, and also demonstrated the realization that adulthood is in full effect. Even though some sessions were more bearable than the other each had its own purpose.
In December 2014, I gifted an Historical Display of my father's history of heroism that I designed to North Central High School. My father’s name was Bruce Alan Grandstaff. He was an NC graduate of 1952. The display is located in the Science Building on the landing between the 1st and 2nd floor. He was the first and only Spokane born and raised recipient of the Medal of Honor in Spokane, Washington. The display serves to educate the educators and our newest generations about my father’s history of heroism, which reflects honor on all those who serve. It also encourages public awareness that the children and family serve alongside them. It shares the many history and social science lessons gained from my father’s ultimate sacrifice for this nation (KIA 5/18/67) giving his last full measure of devotion. My father was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism under fire. The Main Library on Joint Base Lewis-McChord was built and dedicated in his honor and the VA Medical Center of Spokane was recently named for him. He is now considered a(n) historical figure. I invited the Educators to familiar themselves with the display. We realize the influence a Village of educators has in the shaping of character; in this instance, contributing to the shaping of character of a North Central student who became Spokane's first recipient of our Nation's Highest Award for Heroism and Bravery (Newiki, n.d.). Nearly 50 years later (2013) after my father’s death, another alumnus would become a living recipient from the same high
HONOUR IS AN IMPORTANT VALUE OF THE CHARACTERS IN THE PLAY. WHICH CHARACTERS IN PARTICULAR BELIEVE THAT HONOUR IS AN IMPORTANT THEME IN THE PLAY?
In Trent Reedy’s opinion, Code of Honor is, “a true page turner that delivers no shortage of military and spy thriller action, even as it provides an incisive look at some of the most daunting challenges facing America today.”Some people dislike that this book is very violent, especially with all of the bad things that are happening in our society, but generally this book is action-packed, emotional, and nerve racking. Code of Honor is an amazing book that most readers will enjoy.
Marquez, in Chronicle of a Death Foretold, shows how honor guides people's decisions and gives them justification for them as well. The focus of this novella (the murder of Santiago Nasar), revolved around the concept of honor, and is repeated throughout the book. The merciless actions of the Vicario brothers shows the extremes of honor and its consequences.
Imagine you are a 17 year old boy having the best time of your life at the homecoming dance right after you win the homecoming football game when all of a sudden you find out your brother has been framed as a terrorist. By impuls you lash out on the person that told you the dreadful news and you are sent down to the principal's office, where your mom comes to get you and you find out your brother is possibly a terrorist that is working for al-qaeda. You are in shock and you try to find any way possible to prove your brothers innocent. This is what it was like for Kamran Smith from “Code of Honor” By: Alan Gratz. This book takes place in Arizona, 2015 just a few months before super bowl XLIX (Super bowl 49). In a heated situation where a boy’s brother is mistaken for a terrorist and now his little brother has to prove that he
It has been said, "I would rather die standing than live on my knees!" (Emiliano Zapata). All things are possible to a person who stands on the foundation of honor. The definition of honor is a high regard or respect; personal integrity; reputation; privilege (Webster’s Dictionary). The word honor comes from Latin Honos. Honor shapes lives everyday, and provides the glue that holds a family, community and country together.
Throughout the history of the world, honor has been an important part of life. In literature, as well, honor plays an important role in many plots and the development of almost any character. Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing is no exception. In this comedy about love and marriage, honor is revealed as the primary reason for many of the actions taken by several different characters. When Claudio breaks off his wedding with Hero, he does it because he believes she is not chastised as she claims to be and in being such, she would dishonor him as well as her father if the marriage were to proceed as planned. The play is an accurate depiction of the honor code and the different standards for men and women of the time in regards to
Honor in No One Writes to the Colonel and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Garcia-Marquez
Honour can both be remarkable and marginalising. For anthropologist Pitt-Rivers (as cited in Neyrey, 1998), it is our worth or merit that we see not only through our own eyes but as well as the society’s, and that it is the assessment of our own worth. He added that it is the pride we claim along with the recognition of such claim, the society’s acknowledgement of our excellence, and our pride which we have the right to possess. Our honour is judged and constructed by our families, the society, and in many ways determined through classifications based on gender. In this paper, I argue that although honour generally applies to both women and men, it has different interpretations & applications, and is a gendered problem for three reasons. First, the concept of honour is only associated with the idea of being masculine. Second, it’s mostly women who are oppressed and predominantly the victims of its punishment— that only men’s aggressive actions are justifiable, albeit they commit such violations too. Third, it is technically affiliated to the policing & regulating of female behaviours, and only favours men.
In our current society there 's a prevalence to see traditional society often as a negative picture as “primitive, non-scientific, and emotional, although it is sometimes linked with a mythical golden age of close-knit family values and community” (Traditional society, 1998). In contrast modern society is defined as “people living together in the current time” (Modern Society Defined, 2015). Both societies have been successful, but to what degree; who is it who follows traditional and who follows modern ways? There is a belief that traditional society promotes a more calm and unified environment as opposed to modern which conjures up the notion of fast paced, aggressive, and ever changing. In my paper I will explain the value of honour, discuss the child life in both societies, the moral economy, the different politics, and mass society.
