The right that is most relevant to the case of the recension of admission to Harvard to potential students is the right to express an identity in a social environment. The right to express an identity extends out to the right of free speech and the right to not be discriminated against. The right to free speech is the right to communicate an identity with others and the right to not be discriminated against is the right to not be attacked for having a particular identity. Identity can take many forms and in this case it takes form in an identity of thought and an identity that has to do with criteria such as race and gender. Since free speech and the right to not be discriminated against come from the same core concept of identity then they are in general morally equivalent with the assumption that the different forms of identity are morally equivalent. Rights are often talked about with respect to an isolated individual or an isolated group irrespective to the other individuals and groups around them. The reality of rights is that they are ascribed with respect to some other group or entity. It is for this reason that rights are always limited when living in a community environment. College is a community environment in which many individuals and groups have to interact with each other on a regular basis.
