The Importance Of Leadership In 'The Hobbit'

Being a leader means to be the person who helps everyone with everything, keeps everyone out of danger, and is the head of the group. Gandalf was away for most of the trip, and and someone needed to take over and be a leader. The person who did that task, Bilbo, could not have been better for the job. Bilbo proved to be a leader in many different ways throughout the entire expedition.

To me “Leadership means leading people for positive outcomes”. An effective leader may have many aspects but the relationship that exists between a leader and their followers is one of the most important aspects of leadership which can determine the success quotient in any organization.

Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.

Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.

There are some actions that can determine a leader’s characteristics; due to the fact that these characteristics are determined by their leader’s actions when protecting his or her comrades. A lot of leaders show characteristics toward the situations they encounter; such as being cunning to save themselves and others, showing bravery, and being loyal to other people and to himself. Leaders use these characteristics as leadership in order for him or her to solve the situations that they are currently experiencing. During real life situations, people are sometimes cunning when they are trying to solve their situations in a stealthy way. According to President Abraham Lincoln, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man 's character, give him power.” Many people can get through their trials and develop their character, but when they are given power, if will show what type of a person they are. A bad leader is arrogant and leads by fear, and often bends the rules based off of what would benefit them even when it contrasts with what would benefit their community. A good leader is flexible, patient, and rational, and knows how to improve whatever they are in control of and take action. Leadership, to me, is not necessarily always equated with a formal title, but rather it is characterized by the attitude, behavior, mindset, and actions of a person. Being a leader means being positive and supportive of others, providing them the opportunity to be heard and know that their opinion matters, motivating them to accomplish shared goals through teamwork. Unfortunately, these are not qualities that one can simply decide to possess. People are not followers simply because they choose to be, but because they do not have what it takes to be anything more. Although many people will try to rise above and lead others, there are only a select few that will succeed.

Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds. There are many areas that are essential for courageous leadership according to Blankstein. One that really stands out to me is having heart. He notes that effective leaders act with heart. Leaders will always come against someone or something that opposes what they believe, boldness will give them the strength to keep going even when the people they lead have start to disappear or they have grown weak. At the first that you are ready to give up they will abandon ship as the leader it must be a part of your character to be bold and keep going no matter how hard things may seem. This characteristics tie in with the earlier trait of inspiration. When other see how bold you are they will realize that just maybe if you’re willing to put this much on the line, face the probability of being ridiculed and disowned by your and the rest of society just maybe you stand for something that is right and maybe they should too.

Leadership is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as the “action of leading a group of people or an organization.” Leadership is also the ability to set trends, inspire, motivate, and sway others to produce desired results. There are different styles and ways of performing leadership and a good leader has the ability to take ordinary people, put them all together, and hopefully yield successful results. For organizations to have sustained results from their performance there must be a good balance of business insight, technical and interpersonal skills, and good team dynamics.
