He will use this research to give his cases (families and individuals) personalized guidance on where they can go to meet their needs. He will also translate documents from English to Arabic for immigrant and refugee populations so that they may easily understand the information that we provide them since they may be early in the process of learning English. He will also interpret between Arabic and English speakers because his task supervisor does not know Arabic, and the populations that we will be working with contain a lot of Arabic speakers. He will have two cases management in this semester. Also, he will help the task supervisor by assisting with cases. In addition, there are many cases which he will be assisting them and follow up an Advanced Practicum Learning Contract and Educational Plan. Health and wellness and role competence: Increasing the student’s level of confidence in her abilities to write legibly, to form letters correctly, and to use scissors more accurately would elevate her role competency as a student and would therefore increase her overall feeling of health and wellness. Increasing her confidence in social interactions would encourage the student to seek out and engage in play activities with her peers which would provide a better sense of social well-being.
This will give students an opportunity to discuss their strong points and also look at areas where they could further develop their self-esteem and self-confidence.
I am planning to incorporate the skills and knowledge associated with my practicum setting. My learning contract will incorporate each skill and knowledge into each

I aspire to become a licensed clinical social worker so that I can have an in-depth method for assisting clients. I believe that social workers are afforded an awesome yet overwhelming task of helping individuals through the course of their lives. I hope to inspire my clients in knowing that challenges are the stepping stones to becoming resilient and that challenges are not meant to break a person. All in all, it is important for social workers to constantly reaffirm their dedication to helping their clients by taking time to care for themselves, seeking continuing education so they are kept abreast of current information, realizing that the steps to change and change itself is often uneasy, messy, difficult but necessary for the advancement of all
In his article, Cowger (1994) discusses how focusing on a client’s strengths has considerable advantages. As stated in Cowger’s (1994) article, a strengths perspective will help level out the power between the practitioner and the client, helps build self confidence in the client, and when the assessment of these strengths are individualized there is a better understanding of exactly what is going on in the clients situation, thus helping the client feel empowered. As seen in the case of Jake, assessing his strengths was crucial in his work with Dr. Ungar as it not only helped him, but also helped Dr. Ungar understand and trust Jakes. While others thought that Jake’s absence from school and poor academic performance were hurting him, Dr. Ungar looked at it from a different perspective. In his eyes, Jake was doing this to have some sort of control over some part of his life and showed the maturity of 13 year
My exposure via internship will prepare me for all aspects of social work, as it will allow me to implement the theoretical knowledge that I will gain in the classroom and provide me opportunity to use it on a practical level. My hopes are to continue working in the area of mental health as I am in the moment. My motivation for becoming a social worker was inspired by my past life experiences. These opportunities have greatly improved my skills and have given me a valuable insight into this
Given the student’s post-secondary goals, what are the student’s current strengths, needs, interests, and preferences in relation to these goals?
What I hope to gain from my internship is to truly be able to gain hands-on experience in the field of social work. Although I have prior experience in working with a particular group within a social work setting, I do not have experience working with diverse programs and diverse groups. I would like to learn how to conduct psychosocial assessments, and implement crisis intervention plans. I am interested in learning how to work with clients in completing intakes, conducting therapy, as well as collaborating with colleagues. I aim to learn how to apply the education and experience I brought with me to my new intern role.
The other area of social work that I want to make a positive change in is substance abuse
After I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara I was unsure what my next step would be. Of course I was anxious since I did not have experience working nor did I excel in my undergrad studies however, I knew I needed to use my newly earned degree in a positive way. Fast forward, after working for two years, I have gained the skills, knowledge and values from my work experiences that have confirmed my desire to advance my education in the social work field. I currently have my own case load of clients as a case manager at a level 12 group home but it’s time to take the next step forward. I want to ultimately advance social justice and provide services to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
The StrengthsFinder 2.0 book is not too complicating to read. I first thought that the book would contain so many terminologies relating to psychology; however, the author uses the simple work for those not influencing in English to understand. In the introduction part of the book, the author recommends his readers to discover the strengths and what type of characteristic we are, and develop ourselves based on the strengths we have instead of building the new skills.
Areas, I need to enhance my self-awareness begin by becoming more knowledgeable when using a DSM-V, as I still need to feel more confident learning about different diagnosis. Becoming knowledgeable will help me find effective interventions to help the client and their family. Also, I need to become more familiar when using therapeutic clinical interventions to help clients when in crisis or sessions. When provided with guidance by the field instructor, it will help me continue to grow as a social worker. Lastly, enjoying the process of being an intern in a field I am still learning about. Enjoying the process will also help me be more present with the clients and families when in sessions.
Every worthwhile journey begins with one step. My social work journey began when I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Utah in 2003. I thought my next step would be to immediately pursue a graduate degree. In my undergraduate career I had taken numerous classes from the College of Social and Behavioral Science and had done well in those classes. In my Social Work as a Profession course I had an assignment to shadow a social worker and write a paper about my experience. I chose to shadow my father-in-law, a social worker with over 30 years of experience, and in my paper I expressed my desire to go into the social work field. I knew I liked helping people. I knew I liked problem solving and critical thinking. I thought my 22 year-old self was ready to embark on that journey, but I wasn’t. I realize now that what I lacked at graduation was one crucial step… perspective. Over the past twelve years I have gained that much needed perspective and have taken many steps forward in my journey, and with those steps and that increased perspective, I now feel more fully prepared to begin my social work career.
2. Identify two areas of personal strength and two areas of personal weakness in being a self-motivated and engaged student.
