Having to struggle through life with many difficult obstacles and problems. Not knowing how to get through the depressing and dark parts within life. This is what people go through on a daily basis, a lot happens during the course of a person's life. But how the actions taken on to becoming a proud and happy person is by the certain, specific choices and hard decisions that are made. This is shown in pieces of texts from the following poems. “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes both bring the deep thoughts together that nobody's life is perfect, everyone has struggles within life but there is always a way to get past the difficult times.
Throughout “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley he proves that no matter how dark and hard the past has been there’s always a way to get past it. The use of the literary term imagery is shown in this poem because it describes how gloomy and depressing it is. The evidence states, “out of the night that covers me” as well as “Looms but the Horror of the shade” (Henley 1, 10). This is clearly showing that it is a depressing time taken place in the speaker's life. Most everyone can relate and picture this because life is not easy. The literary device of imagery represents the theme because it is about difficult and depressing times in life and it is used to make the reader feel and picture the “darkness.” This is mainly used at the beginning of the poem to set the tone of the whole poem and what the reader
Having good character in life is important because, good character helps you succeed better in life, it helps you see the world different, your mistakes, your failures, it helps you stay committed to your values and goals. It's a foundation for happiness throughout your life. To have good character you must have surpassed these six traits, caring, respect, fairness, citizenship, responsibility and trustworthiness. Caring is when you put other people first you show them compassion and kindness, this is a trait a lot of people have issues with, not all people are cold hearted and heartless but there's a majority of people who are, but they don't know they are, it's just the way they were raised, maybe they had a horrible start to their life
Through “Invictus” William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life, no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, “I have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed” (6 & 8). This device is being used to demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person's life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is diction. He uses this device to stress the importance of different words
A boy who is being bullied at school doesn't know what to do or who to go to. He has become depressed and a shell of who he once was. He wants to talk to someone about what he is going through. He talks to his friend. His friend says he can not give into the bullies and give them what they want. He has to get stronger for the next bullies to come. Hardships are very common among people who are struggling, but they can not give into those struggles, instead of giving in they need to get stronger. This idea can be seen in many pieces of the following poems.“Invictus” by William Ernest Henley and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes both convey the message that people who are struggling throughout a
Life is challenging for everyone. We will all face its difficulties eventually; whether it be something financial, like paying bills, something physical, like a bodily injury, or something emotional, like the loss of a loved one. Billions of people go through these struggles every day, maybe even you are going through something similar. Because of this, it is important for everyone to stay strong, despite the difficulties of life; because whether we like it or not, bad things will continue to happen, and collapsing under that pressure is no good for anyone. In William Ernest Henley’s poem Invictus, the narrator, who is very likely the author, tells us that through all of life’s difficulties, we must remain dignified, stand tall, and keep moving forward.
Imagine that a person is making his way through life and growing up when all the sudden his Grades were starting to fall so that person has to rise up through those problems and get back to where he belongs. Next month things are still going smoothly and then he is told that his mother is in the hospital and is having heart problems and his attitudes plummets. But over the course of the next week she gets better and he feels whole again, these are the problems some people have to face while people all face their own problems. This idea can be seen throughout many poems and books including the following poems . “Invictus” by William Henley and “Still I Rise” both convey the message that people need to stick with their problems and push through them.
The ancient Egyptians were the first culture discovered to strongly value the relationship of an afterlife with regards to moral and evil actions. In contrary belief to being obsessed with death, the Egyptians held onto the outlook of living a just life. Being given the opportunity to live fruitfully in the post-mortem world, was an optimistic ideal in turn for people to appreciate life on Earth. Taking care of the land and crops in hopes for revival in the afterlife – which involves mummification – as opposed to the negative philosophies of other cultures (Casey 2013: 1). The evolution of belief in Osiris as judge of the dead, spanned thousands of years, from shortly before the Early Dynastic Period to the Ptolemaic Dynasty and is written about in Pyramid texts to the Book of the Dead. These sources reinforce the distress that comes with post-mortem judgement and presents the possibility of resurrection for all, not just solely to the King and his close circle, as otherwise believed (Budge 1973: 148). Egyptians aspired to interact with Osiris in the hereafter and did so by practicing rituals as well as living a vindicated life for hopes of living a righteous existence in the netherworld.
According to Webster's dictionary, life is "the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body; a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings."
life is our most valuable gift, but as we choose to do things or situations that may harm us we forget the idea of valuing our lives. The movie seven pounds showed us that Ben Thomas was willing to help people's lives after he kill his wife and others in a car accident. He no longer valued his life but believed there was people out there valuing their life more than himself. Having an illness or suffering in any way will help us realize we need to value our gift of life more often. As we lose the value of our lives we may no longer find happiness in our lives.
Christianity is religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who serves as the focal point of the Christian faith. It is the world's largest religion, with over 2.4 billion followers, or 33% of the global population, known as Christians. Christians make up most of the population in 158 countries and territories. Christians believe that Jesus is the saviour of humanity whose coming as the Messiah was prophesied in the Old Testament. The Bible, the sacred text of Christianity says, that good is when you obey what God says and evil is when teachings we follow to be good and live a good life are The Ten Commandments if we fall to temptation we can see by the story of Adam and Eve and the Bible uses stories in the Old Testament such as the 10 Commandments, The Beatitudes and most of all The Golden Rule. It is clear to see that Christians believe that for actions of good or evil God provides consequences, if we are good we will go to heaven.
He pushed the trash cart into Room 1617, located in the corner of Mercy Jones hospital’s 16th floor. This floor, as he overhead from the quiet whispers of nurses and doctors, was the place of “no return”. He found himself in the cancer wing, where death loomed and misery reigned. Reeking of disinfectant, it was place of little hope, and a place of almost certain outcome.
Imagine living in a world where everybody is exactly the same. Everyone chooses to work the same jobs, everyone decides to eats the same foods, everyone enjoys the same hobbies and nothing is unique. Hard to imagine right? That's because what makes a human unique is how they choose to live their life and handle different situations. Realistically, everyone alive is going to live a unique life, this includes the types of interaction they have with others, troubles they might go through, or even the positive events that take place in the journey of life. By human nature, every single person is going to react significantly different when any event takes place in their lives, that is what makes us human and why the world has so many different cultures and communities.
To live a life worth living is very open to interpretation. It is based on how you as a person live, and act. We all need some human interaction in order to have some kind Of well lived life, because the best way to learn is through opening up. Many people have a hard time opening up
It is said to never judge a book by its cover. The same should really be said in regard to the human person. Unfortunately, all too often first impression judgements are made which can fix the tone of someone's entire existence. Behind his big blue eyes and under his bleached white hair, is a mind of a man who for most of his life has dealt with struggle and turmoil in regards to being comfortable in his own skin. If only humanity could look past what is seen of someone on the outside and begin to see the deeper being under the surface, society would see much less hate.
I have always preferred to show up early to events. This trend seemingly began as I was born prematurely at 32 weeks, a tribulation that nearly took both me and my mother's life. Unlike most newborns, I spent the first few hours of life in a neonatal intensive care unit as doctors rushed to mend my collapsed lung. Although I was not as big as expected and I came partially broken, my three siblings sat in the hospital waiting room with my father, eager to get their small, stubby fingers around their early gift of a little brother. I came into this world similar to an unripened fruit, but fortunately I sprouted in an exceptional community with the most valuable mentors.
In the middle of me fixing the bedroom up to a nice standard my partner arrived back home, she asked me to sit down with her, as she had something important to explain to me.
