The lottery is not an effective way for states to raise funds for education. I don't think that lottery is an effective way to raise state revenues for education because not all the money goes to schools all the time. What happens sometimes is the schools just get a little part of the lottery, for example, some states use most of the lottery money for the environment and community and most of the time whatever is left is usually put towards education. Someone opposing can say that lottery does help education because of states such as Georgia that benefits very well from it. The money made from the lottery is not affecting state educations as much and it's misleading lots of people.
Another reason I think the lottery is not effective towards education because they always exaggerate what the lottery does and they always mislead people. They say if you buy a ticket you are helping out with schools around your state, but not enough money is donated to

For example, when states create the lottery they are promised an amount that is made from all the lottery tickets, get donated to a public benefit in the state. The schools do receive a little bit but it's nothing much to help out the schools in a big way as they say it does. Someone who does not agree to this could say that sometimes the reason state education don't get the funding they are promised is because some of the money gets shared towards the environment and community of the state. In conclusion, the lottery is a good idea to try and raise money for states education but in the end, it isn't all that effective. The money gets shared with the state's community and environment. A lot of people buy lottery tickets for the prize but some also get them thinking they help out the state's education in a big way but when all of it ends not much of a difference gets
The lottery preys on the people it is supposed to be helping. It is funded through lottery players, which are usually low income minorities. One example that proves this is when Duke university economist Charles Clofelter and Phillip cook found that “ blacks, high school dropouts and people in the low income category” ( source D), are the heaviest
Robert, governmental funding can be seesaws up and down. I wonder what you meant by public or representative of federal government of several variances. Robert, your statement says in of millions and millions dollars generated by willing citizens. The lottery is a gambling system just like faith. We were allowing the lottery to achieve some success stories but there have been unusual effects. Robert, have you ever research on how the lottery was started and why. The economic issues happen in our government would have the funds not be able to release. The winner or winners have faith trust the system by playing a dollar and a dream. Yes, the sinful nature causes gambling to question our belief and faith.
First off, winning the lottery may not be a blessing because you can lose your money quicker than you think. After winning the lottery, the government takes almost a quarter of your winnings in taxes to help cover the United States’ debt. If you won about 10 million dollars, the government would take around 2.5 million in taxes. Another way you can
The concept of the lottery is the same throughout every state, people have money and are interested in “playing the odds”; the revenue from these people is then divided and used to benefit organizations of the state’s choice. Exactly where the money goes to is what differs from state to state. Some states put all the revenue from the lottery into one trust fund that is allocated for a more broad and generalized group. Other states target specific programs such as, preserving natural parks or assisting the educational system with additional funds. The State of Alabama does not have a lottery and its locals are the ones missing out. Due to the lack of the lottery in Alabama, those who choose to play the lottery must travel out of the state, which means their money goes to other state’s lotteries benefiting that states programs and ultimately its residents. By keeping the peoples money in the state a lottery will open an endless amount of opportunities to better state supported programs and the state as a whole.
A lottery winner will begin to feel the need to flaunt their wealth because of their popularity. In result, a lottery winner will start buying flashy things for display and buying others overly expensive gifts to show how wealthy they are. Not considering the cost of their flashy and expensive objects, can cause a lottery winner to lose all their winnings in a matter of time. Therefore, the popularity given to a lottery winner isn’t beneficial because the fame and wealth results into dishonor and debt.
Gambling and the lottery is a tax on the poor. The Texas Tech University did research on the people who played the Texas Lottery and discovered that people with no high school diploma spent a monthly average of $179. They also did a study on what the average is on college graduates and the spend an average of $49 a month. As well as the Texas Tech study other studies show that people who live in lower income ZIP-codes spend more money on the lottery than anyone else. Gambling and the lottery is a tax
In order to win the lottery, you have to be serious about it. I remember seeing Cynthia Stafford on a news channel explaining her visualization exercises that help her to win, and the news anchor was making jokes about it. I was thinking to myself this is why the Law of Attraction doesn't work for some people. You can't make jokes about the Law of Attraction, you have to take this concept very seriously in order for it to work. Joking around or being skeptical about it will dismiss everything. People are very believable when it comes to spiritual concepts such as angels and demons. So why is manifesting the lottery so far fetched? Just because it hasn't worked for you doesn't mean it won't happen. You have to believe in your heart and soul that you're going to win, and you will. When that happens, nothing can stop
In the first place, The Lottery and The Hunger Games both share the theme of tradition. The lotteries in both stories are annual traditions and have been going on for over seventy years. We know this because Jackson writes “Chips of wood, Mr. Summers had argued. had been all very well when the village was tiny, but now that the population was more than three hundred and likely to keep on growing, it was necessary to use something that would fit more easily into the black box.” In The Hunger Games Collins writes “Ladies and gentlemen, let the seventy-fourth Hunger Games begin – and may the odds be ever in your favor!” Both of these statements tell us that in both stories that these drawings are traditions, and have been going on for a long time. These traditions are both similar, but one difference is that in The Hunger Games they choose twenty kids who fight to the death, and in The Lottery, they only chose one person to stone to death. These traditions are both quite grim traditions should be stopped.
North Carolina School Systems have been ranked near the bottom in the Country. With the lottery, lottery advocates felt that the lottery could help build new schools and fund additional educational programs that could make North Carolina Schools much better. The Governor won out and the lottery was adopted in 2005 with much skepticism. Many that opposed the lottery felt that the lottery would set back the state because it would force people to choose between purchasing fundamental things needed to survive or purchase lottery tickets. Governor Easley was successful in selling to the parents who were tired of failing schools and the lack of money to fund different programs in schools. The final vote for the lottery was deadlocked at 24 oppose and 24 for. Lt. Governor Bev Purdue was the final vote, her vote helped pass the legislature to allow the lottery to come to North
In her essay “Against the Odds, and Against the Common Good,” Gloria Jimenez asserts that states should not promote and advertize gambling. Jimenez lists many clever lottery slogans that are deceivingly interpreted. She also argues that these slogans advertise the advantages of gambling and playing the lottery because the money supposedly goes to things such as education and social service. Jimenez explains some arguments in favor of state-run lotteries, such as free participation and the creation of jobs, but argues that they are not relevant to the problem. She briefly touches on a statistic claiming that low income individuals are more likely to spend money on lottery tickets than their opposite, higher income
Lottery is one of the best things that has ever happened to human kind especially those that dream high and but their dreams don’t come to life because they don’t have what it takes to make it happen. Lotteries are in various categories such as sweep stakes, scratch off, the Jackpot and even the green card lottery. The lottery that is being focused in this argument is the jackpot one. When individuals or people in general buy the lottery ticket their hopes are high, and they anxiously await with anticipation hoping to win. If they don’t win, they never give up, for they know that there is always next time and they keep playing. Some people urge that playing lottery is a bad idea because people end up getting
When anybody buys lottery tickets it can be-wither the money they get to do academic things. “...some state legislatures have used lottery receipts as an excuse to cut normal budget allotments to education.” source F states. This clearly states that their money can be cut from the normal budget in the schools. This means that if less people buy lottery tickets there is a chance that schools will be able to fund more academic functions. In source F they say the 1990-91 school year the lottery gave 691.2 million dollars
