The Importance Of Making A Football Team In High School Football

There’s a saying that everyone’s said at least once in their lifetime, I’m sure. It’s so cliché, but now I know that there is so much truth behind it. “Believe in yourself.” Rather than giving up on yourself, use your failures to make you better. Learn how to bounce back from adversity and learn from those experiences. This is called using your growth mindset. According to Carol Dweck, research psychologist, in her book Mindset, “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” It wasn’t until the summer between my junior and senior year of high school that I learned this and of course I learned it the hard way. I had played club basketball for four summers in a row with the Longmont Rush basketball club. I loved the game of basketball and I had spent countless hours working on my skills on the court. I even wanted to play in college. I already had schools scouting me. Unfortunately, in my final season, just before my senior year, my biggest fear came true.

I worked out everyday and practiced every chance I got. When the first day of tryouts came around again, I woke up that morning like every other day, but I knew today was different. I knew that today was the day I was going to redeem myself. When I got to the field most of the guys looked familiar, a few of them even joked around with me and asked "you're back for more?" Unlike the previuos year, I was ready for this tryout. I proved to everyone that doubted me and said I couldn't and I earned my spot on that team. Have you ever felt like you’re not good enough, not knowing just how much potential you have? One of the most salient experiences of my life was making the Island Coast High School football team, because it taught me that to succeed you must be confident in yourself. The old me would have thought, “ I’m not good enough,” because I never thought that I could compete with kids that already played football. I suppose that I always felt like i couldn’t compete with football players because whenever I would play football in eighth grade, I would not be able to keep up with them. Little did I know, all of that was about to change the day I made my way to the middle of the humid, scorching fied, staring into the eyes of North Ft. Myers Highs’ freshman football team.

I played football in high school for all 4 years. My freshmen and sophomore year I wasn't very good. I was a backup and never played. Then came along my junior year, I was still undersized and didn't start but I improved my skill greatly and I started to increase my work ethic. The off-season before my junior year I went hard in the weight room and became strong. I also lost some weight and gained some height. That's hard work in the offseason is what lead to me having a great senior year. My senior year was full of emotion, I felt tired, determined, and at the end of the season I felt sadness with no regret and the love for my brothers. The first thing we had to do to become a great team was build a brotherhood with kids who wanted to try.

Football is a sport I had learned to play growing up. I didn’t have a clue how complicated it was until I got into high school. It took me years until it I realized I was superior at being a wide receiver. I learned this by working harder than others, my willingness to learn, and my physical toughness.

When I first started playing football, I didn't know anything about concussions. Now that I’m a sophomore in high school, I see all these stories of concussions all over the place. This doesn't worry me about playing this sport and no one should be worried about it either. All kinds of injuries occur in all kind of sports; however, football takes an extremely bad rap about concussions, but the fact is they happen in almost every sport. Many people think tackle football should be banned until a person is sixteen, but if they wait till then to teach them how to properly play they could get hurt even worse than if they did play tackle football before high school. Tackle football should be started around fifth grade to teach kids the fundamentals and keep them safe when they play in high school.

I soon realized that I needed help with getting my body better so I asked my mom for help and we got a personal trainer who helped me improve my body physique and conditioning greatly over the summer time. I realized this happening to me made me better, it made me work harder than I ever had before and it built me the confidence to go tryout for the jv basketball team. I made the jv team but faced a setback, I didn’t play a lot and slowly watched my minutes diminish to other players. This time I had been prepared from the time of me getting cut but also I realized that I always need to improve everyday and give everything I have which I failed to do. This hit me similar to the first failure because it hurt knowing I worked so hard and still wasn't getting as much playing time as everyone else or even sometimes not playing at all. Failure is one of the most natural things that occurs in someone’s everyday life and how we react to depends on the type of person that you are. Failure is not an easy thing to handle but I used it as fuel to get better and learned life lessons from my experiences with it. I spent the five years competing to acquire skills and experience. I trained five days a week for ten months leading up to the tryouts. I filmed my practices to analyze my techniques. Tryouts consisted of a morning skills session, the competition, an interview, and a written test. I felt like my morning skills and the written test did not go well; however, the interview and the competition went incredibly well. Unfortunately, when they announced the nominees for the national team, I was not chosen. My dream that I trained so long for had been crushed and there were no second chances. I kept thinking if I had trained harder, studied more, that there was more I could have done.

Taking the field with a varsity football team as a freshman is quite scary. Friday nights are something I have grown to love even more than before. Mental toughness as well as physical is very much needed in this sport. This year would be the test for me. Nerves are always going to be a factor for people that are starting to play football with older guys.I was a fourteen year old freshman. Over the summer break I had been lifting a lot of weights and getting strong. It wasn’t ever going through my mind that I would start as a freshman, Until Coach Cole came to me and said that I was going to have to be tough because I had a good chance to start because we needed another lineman.

The product is the stage for pulling in a fan base. The high school football team needs to attract fans to attend the game for momentum/ energy during the football games. First on my campaign for the football team is to approach fans for criticism. However, Social media has made it simpler than any time in recent memory to assess why individuals would or would not go to an occasion, and connecting with fans by means of an open discussion has the additional advantage of expanding the teams visibility through direct exchange. That includes the second part on the campaign list to push through social media. In the textbook it states that,

Sports is not just a hobby that we do in our free time, it is something that we are passionate about and love doing. There will be times where we all have to take risks to be playing a specific sport, like football. Many teens have had head injuries due to head-to-head contact. There has been a lot of issues bringing up this topic and very contradicting. It has been news reporters have been wanting to know if young teens should risk their bodies to get a brutal head damage. Should football not be played in high school? I think teens should play the sport. Before anyone says that I think that teens should become a part of something dangerous, I do not think people think what “sports” actually mean.

I have many hopes and dreams during high school,during college,and college My hopes, dreams is making the varsity football team in 11th or 12th grade in high school,Make honor roll or distinguish honor roll,Graduate high school and go to college after that,After college I would like to get a job that pays a lot of money.

Through out high school my parents have pushed me to do my best and I have transferred that from the classroom to the football field with my goal not only as football player but as a student and to one day give my children the opportunity my parents have provided me. In the weight room and on the field I do my best and outwork my teammates to encourage them to work harder and in my mind challenging your teammates to better makes the team better and helps the team come together to achieve a common goal. For me that goal is to make the people I love and my coaches proud. Leave the field every day with the confidence that you gave your best to improve yourself.
