It has been an interesting semester of AP English. I wrote a total of four essays, each one seem to be better then the last. My best essay had to have been my college scholarship essay. The prompt I used for my scholarship essay was “something I know now that I wish I knew when I was younger”. I talk about how failure is something everyone should experience, because it helps you learn from your mistakes and gain valuable experience. I truly believe in this concept, which helped me, dive head first into this essay. Something else that made this essay standout, as my best work is that I was able to get my point across and use some personally experiences that helped drive the point home. In summary, my college scholarship essay is probably the best evidence of my hard work because I put a lot of thought and effort into writing it. Making this portfolio made me think about my writing skills and what level of writing I am on. I think that I made some improvements to my writing, but I could have done better. Some improvements I made during this semester would be better organization; I was able to produce my own outline that actually helped me while I was writing my essay. Another improvement that I made would be the ability to find three main points that could be argued in a paper. Even though there was improvement in some aspects of my writing there are some areas that could use a little work. I need to do a better job of supporting my main points. I am able to find the main
Traveling down Hobsonway after the sun goes down, is like a game we used to play in college.
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
I am writing to thank you for your generous $1000 Osher Initiative California Community College Scholarship. I feel very honor and appreciative to be the recipient of this awards.
In the second semester of my sophomore year, I have been able to pass all my classes. I also finished taking the AP exam for my AP European History class. During this semester I have grown as a student in my skills for academic success in computer science; we made webpages using HTML and CSS language. I have also grown in my ability to communicate ideas by presenting a Prezi slideshow to my English class and classmates; the presentation was about a book we read in class in our groups.
I grew up in a world of little things. I appreciated the details in my daily life - the way my mothers voice changed as she read to me, the innumerable times my father checked his pockets before leaving for work. I liked the comfort of cramped library corners and well explored territory and small state schools. Growing up in Asheville, I considered myself wordly enough- I couldn’t imagine anything bigger than the mountains and stories ever-present around town.
I improved as a writer this semester because I became better at composing sentences. I improved not only my grammar but also the content of the sentences and how I articulate my ideas. This portfolio represents an accurate picture of me as a writer, because it shows how I write in an academic setting and the subjects I love. This is apparent in the choices that I made in my selection of writings. However, it could better represent my progress if I had included my scores and comments from all of my assignments. Though, I do believe that this portfolio showcases my progress this semester.
This year in Honors Freshman Literature and Composition, I have grown tremendously as a writer. My essays from the beginning of the year to the end have showed that I have greatly progressed in many skills that I have worked on. While I have acquired strengths this year, I also have weaknesses that I hope to improve next year in my writing.
Over the year I have made a tremendous amount of progress as a writer. I have improved my grammar and reduced the amount of run-on sentences in my writings. Throughout the year my writings have made a lot of improvement and my grades throughout the year reflect this well. In the beginning of the year my writings were very choppy or unorganized and didn’t flow very well but now they have structure and are very detailed. I have gone from getting an h5 on my first writing to a h8-9. This year, I have learned to make corrections, do extra research, and take time on my writings or essays. My writings this year show my strengths, weaknesses, growth and made me set goals for next year.
Welcome. I am currently a first year student at the University of California, Merced and I am majoring in Psychology. I set up this portfolio as a documented reflection on the process I made during the semester in Writing 001. This shows the beginning of my milestone of college writing in my first year of UCM. There are different categories of the PLO that helps me define the skills that I have achieved upon the course. In the beginning of the semester, I knew that I would be introduced to many fields of writing. I know there is much more to learn and to improve, but also I feel like my writing skills slowly progressed since the beginning of this class. Since I was little, I wasn't a big fan of any writing assignments at school. Even if it
suicide, loss of relationships, or difficulty in everyday life. Anger and mood swings as well as isolating oneself from emotional connection, is another negative response from repressing a traumatic experience. Oftentimes one is not aware that they are suppressing anything, they just know that something is wrong. Seeking mental health care can be difficult for some people depending on where they live, their income, or insurance coverage. Until relatively recently PTSD was not categorized as an actual medical disorder, however long before being recognized, people suffered a lot of indignity over having it.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
“Lord, help my poor soul”, the last and final words of the amazing writer, Edgar Allan Poe, before his sudden death in 1849. Edgar Allan Poe wrote dark and treacherous stories and poems that often lead to the questioning of his mental state. Poe lived a rather difficult life in which writing was his escape. He at one time was in so much debt that he could have never payed it back even if his career took off. No one ever knew what had happened to Poe, only that he was a drunk and was in a lot of debt.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. I always have loved writing. A few years ago I found my true knack for writing, I wanted be an author. My favorite type of writing is writing stories of magic, love stories, and adventure. Being a YA Fantasy author is my dream job and I hope it is my job someday, but until then I have jump the many obstacles to get there. One of those obstacles is writing this portfolio. Obviously none of these essays have magic, love stories, or adventure in it so I had to write something out of my comfort zone. I had to dig deeper and truly test my writing skills. These essays don’t have magic, love stories, or adventure, but they show who I am and what type of writer I am.
