Cultures constantly adapt and evolve as time goes on. Global modernization is forcing people to modify old traditions or adapt new ones to keep up with the rest of the world. However, adjusting to modernization does not eliminate the core values and beliefs of a culture. They, more so, mix in newer traditions with their older ones. That way, they are keeping up with everyone else, but not losing the beliefs that make their identity.
My life is a mixture of American culture and Pakistani culture. Pakistani culture is what influences my home life the most. Pakistani culture is similar to India in the sense that its traditions may be blurred, but never truly replaced or forgotten. It is still a developing country, so many traditional beliefs still exist in society; an example is the caste system. Though many old traditions still exist in Pakistani society, it is slowly adopting aspects of Western culture. Pakistani fashion and music are excellent examples of traditional and modern fusions. These three elements reflect Pakistan’s core traditions that are still present in society or fused with newer traditions.
The caste system is something that originates from Indian culture and remained in Pakistan after the partition in 1947. It is a social hierarchy that determines what a person’s role in society is based off their lineage.
