Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, or state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. I chose this word as my theological theme to analyze because of what the Wael Ghonim and the Egyptians had to endure, and my own relationship to the word. Wael Ghonim created the webpage “We are all Khaled Said,” to aid the Egyptian nation to fight through the tyrannical rule that held Egypt hostage. The death of the this young man made Egyptians realize how easily that could have been a loved one or themselves. This word also reminds me of my parents: “Annaliet, si no trabajas duro y te dedicas a Dios, no estás adorando a Dios.” My parents always told me that God created us to worship him and one way of doing that is through hard work because the ability to work is a gift that God gave to mankind. By this, they also meant that following God’s word and keeping our faith for Him would be a constant struggle, similarly like Jones believes, because of the world that we live in. Revelations 2:10 says, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” In whatever we do, wherever we live -- there are always going to be circumstances that we have to face, but the real test is keeping our faith to God while we go through these hardships. The tenet perseverance applies to my own life out of taekwondo and my taekwondo journey to get my black belt in multiple ways. This tenet helps me in my life and in my journey by helping me to never give up and reach higher goals in life.
Many people suffer problems in the world today. This includes terrorism and tyranny. It includes kidnapping and hate crime. It can also be cancer and starvation. Many have lived through problems like these and told the tale because they persevered. Through Hillenbrand’s Unbroken, Wiesel’s Night, and Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, perseverance is emphasized the readers by writing about characters, whether they are survivors of the Holocaust, a prisoner of war, or family, that have to suffer obstacles that can potentially kill them if they don’t overcome it. Even though each author has a different way to show perseverance, they all agree on what perseverance can do. Persevering through unfortunate situations
I believe that when you persevere you can accomplish countless things. When someone says perseverance, I believe that people automatically think about working hard and getting rewards after. While working hard is a big part in it, there is more to it. I am going to share a couple of stories that will hopefully change your mind about perseverance.
Determination is simply not giving up. No matter how hard things get, or how badly you want to just give up, you keep on going. Sometimes you just want to let go, when it seems like what you’re going for is just out of reach, sometimes you tell yourself if what you’re trying to get is worth the great amount of effort that you put in it. When things get hard, you start thinking that its not worth it, and you just want to let it go, but let me tell you this, the more pain and suffering you put into something, the better it'll feel when you get it.
As I trudged bleakly through the double doors, slowly sitting down in my seat, and listened as the cushion deflated underneath me, I wondered whether I could just go back to my dorm and sleep. Thoughts ran through my light-headed brain, all I could really think about had to do with tissues, and lots of water to mask my hideous cough. I hated being sick, especially during school. Nevertheless, I still went to every one of my classes, even if I felt horrible. I always told myself during times when I felt like giving up, just one more hour, just one more day. Just like me, thousands of people went through similar situations, but the way they respond to them showed their own personal perspectives.
“Perseverance is failing 19 times then succeeding the 20th time” Julie Andrews. This means that you are going to hit many bumps in the road but there is always times where you can push through and make the most of their life. As defined by Dictionary.com perseverance is a “steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.” The synonyms are “Dedication” , “ Determination” , and “Diligence”. The antonyms for this word are “Apathy”, “Cowardice” , and “Weakness” . This is important because people need to persevere to get through life’s tough challenges and make the most of it even when times are tough. In the real world this looks like people trying to get through the day even though money is tight. This doesn’t not look like people just sitting around not doing anything to try to help themselves if they don’t have job. The first example where perseverance is shown is that when in the book Glory Road Coach Don Haskins was scrimmaging at college and he is left in all day with no breaks. Later when he got home he took off his sock and the skin on the ball of his foot fell off because he ran so much. The next day he goes to the athletic trainer's room and tapes the skin back on his feet. The second example where perseverance is shown is when the Japanese-Americans were persecuted during WWII based on their nationality and people lost their jobs, businesses, and were left with nothing and were

So, they have to persevere through the pain and constant sickness to fight for their life. Three real people that have shown perseverance in their day to day life. They are Malala Yousafzai, Temple Grandin, and Laura Schroff. Malala Yousafzai is a girl who has to persevere as she stands up to the Taliban and fights for the rights for girls to attend school. Temple Grandin has autism, yet she has changed the face of agriculture, since she has a disability no one wanted to listen to her ideas. She has to persevere everyday as she has to convince people that her ideas are good, even though she gets knocked down most times. Laura Schroff met a boy named Maurice; Laura and Maurice both have to persevere everyday, Maurice more than Laura, but they both have to help one another to keep on going. Nonfiction literature shows people how important it is to have perseverance when they are faced with struggles, it helps people to better understand how to get through the issues they are faced with everyday.
Perseverance is if your knocked down that you will always get back up and keep moving forward. If you fail at something, you have to keep striving for your goal and if you keep persevering you will reach it. "I've failed over and over again in my life and that's why I succeeded" (Michael Jordan). Failure doesn't stop you from reaching your goal it helps you know what not to Do next time. When I got a concussion it was really hard for me because I couldn't play any sports or do anything athletic for about 4 months. I didn't wait to be cleared and still played sports at school and that's why I think it took so long to recover. When I was finally cleared to do play sports again, I was not as fit as I was before I got the concussion because I didn't do much running. I needed to get my fitness level back for soccer so I wouldn't get tired in games or practice. When my team would go on runs it was really hard for me to keep up with everybody and my team does a timed run and I could never pass it
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
At the expert level, sprinters start the race by expecting a hunkering position in the beginning pieces before inclining forward and step by step moving into an upright position as the race advances and energy is picked up. Competitors stay in the same path on the running track all through all sprinting occasions, with the sole special case of the 400 m inside. Races up to 100 m are generally engaged upon increasing speed to a competitor's most extreme rate. All sprints past this separation progressively fuse a component of perseverance. Human physiology manages that a runner's close top velocity can't be kept up for over thirty seconds or so on the grounds that lactic corrosive develops once leg muscles start to endure oxygen hardship. Perseverance is like a shadow. It follows us around, but consequently, we can’t always see it. It’s also like a rainbow, it appears after the harshest of storms. I have heard stories of people and their ideas of perseverance. I have experienced it myself, but I will save that for later. Right now I want to tell you peoples perspective and their stories.
Many people think of the word love vainly. For many, love might stand for a feeling of affection for someone. It’s the first thing to come to mind when the word love is mentioned. For me, love is self-sacrifice. It’s the decision to give all you can to help the people you love. This type of love was shown from my grandfather. Sadly, I never got to meet him, but his story of perseverance and courage showed me how much he sacrificed for the people he loved. I believe that everyone can take a word of advice or some inspiration from his story.
Whether it reveals itself in time of distress, or moments of hardships, hidden beneath the grime and gloom of the catacombs within our illustrious brains, lies an, almost mythical power that moves mountains and carves canyons. This compulsion is the lifeblood that fuels the impossible and empowers the ordinary. This power is not a work of God or a mutation of fictional proportions, gifted to only superheroes and metahumans, but a tiny instinct that lies in all of us. This spirit within us that shines in our brains at our darkest hour, is known as perseverance. It is through this, that the human body can bend, endure and withstand the feral and wild furies of their coming infernos. It is through perseverance that the pistons of accomplishment pump and the wheels of success churn with a ferocious roar. Literature, films and society buzzes and swarms with figures such as these. A marvelous example of this includes Sue from The Last Leaf by O. Henry. Unlike the latter of other literary personas, Sue not only needs to balance her promising artistic career with her personal life, but she must endure through the agonizing talks of death, from her withering friend, Johnsy. However, literary pieces, although profuse in perseverance, are nothing compared to our wondrous society. A real world example of such valor and pertinaciousness include Benjamin Mee, the inspiration behind the 2011 film, We Bought a Zoo, who withstanded through the devastating
In addition, the concept of perseverance would be a philosophical teaching I would apply to my students. Perseverance is also having an opportunity of equality. “Equality of Opportunity means that all members of a society are given equal chances to pursue wealth and enter any occupation or social class” (Spring, 2016, p. 66). Every student should preserve to receive an opportunity and rights to an education no matter what social class, color, or intellectual ability they have. Perseverance leads to fight for an opportunity of equality in which it’s important for students to have that courage in order to have a successful future.
Dreams and desires tend to guide people along the path that they trek in their daily lives. It can impact the schools they attend, the books they read, the information they search, etc. The venture towards one’s goals, however, is often met with a treacherous road. There are obstacles and problems that can impede the progression towards success. These obstacles can create doubt that accomplishing the task is a possibility. The value of perseverance allows individuals to maneuver through obstructions that can prevent progress. “The Country, Mid-January—after E.D.” by Steve Myers and a needlepoint piece of art named “Cardinal” by George Hartzell allows readers to fully grasp the idea of perseverance. I developed a connection with these pieces of art because perseverance is a value that I utilize when doubt injects itself into my goals. Through perseverance, people can reach a sense of happiness as well as success.
