Having lived in Maryland all of my life, I’m extremely surprised by the amount of pollution that happens in my home state. The first example of water pollution that I’ve found is the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. I haven’t visited the area recently, but according to an article by author Alex DeMetrick, it has the dubious reputation of being one of Maryland’s polluted sections. When thinking about the most polluted states in our country, California and New York instantly pop into our mind. What most people don't know, however, is that Texas now ranks number one in most categories of pollution. Whether it be increased emissions from refineries in Beaumont, large pits filled with contamination at Kelley Air Force Base, or polluted water at Lake Sam Rayburn, Texas has more than its fair share of toxic waste.

Texas has always been proud of their heritage and their industry. The boost in the economy is much appreciated by Texas, and our government appears to be hushed by the counter weights and balances where money appears to overpower the concern of environmental harm. Two articles that were reviewed gave the opportunity to enlightened Texans about how production appears to be affecting air quality and water and in turn is hurting Texans’ health. Through facts presented, it is apparent that Texas government must take measures to improve the regulatory agencies so that the health of Texans is secure. I am personally appalled by the facts stated in the articles, and reform is definitely required.

Texas is probably one the biggest states in America. Nobody can compete with that. However, the one thing that’s not so best about Texas is our environmental problems. Air pollution not only affects our health but also has huge impact on the well being of the planet

Pollution is everywhere! People even pollute without even knowing it. They simply throw their soda can on the ground, or even as small as throwing their cigarette on the ground. The point is that pollution is terrible and it needs to be stopped. I already knew that pollution was around. In fact, it's been around since about 1948, but of course that is only when smog came and pollution got very bad. Pollution has been around many years before 1948. I wanted to find as many possible ways to lower the pollution numbers, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I saw a few interesting facts and wanted more, a ton more. I now know multiple ways to stop pollution and a few ways to prevent it. I still had a few question about pollution. For example, what does pollution even mean? Is it true that pollution can increase the risk of skin cancer? And most importantly, how can our society solve the problem of pollution? I was reading many articles to find out he answers to my questions. I think that unfortunately, this problem will not be fixed, but it can be minimized. I don't think this problem will stop because people litter, they smoke, burn fires from coal, and factories blow a ton of smoke. With the population growing and more people polluting, I think that this problem can only be decreased, not stopped.

Over the years pollution has become a growing epidemic that, when taken into the proper hands, can be stopped. Many citizens would argue that caring for the earth is too much work, unrealistic to solve, and unaffordable. Citizens should understand that earth is an amazing home and should not be taken for granted. Despite most people not seeing the earth as dying, but rather see it as a home, the government should require conservation for all citizens because of Earth’s dangerous, current condition, future generations, and preventable outcomes.

There are almost 2 million emergency room visits a year, for asthma, that is caused by air pollution. “Employers lose 14,000 work days every year when asthma keeps adults out of the workplace”(Natural Resource Defense Council). The number of hospital visits has increased due to the many health effects of pollution costing billions of dollars to the public and government.

Pollution happens when chemicals and other outside substances leech into the ground, air and water. These pollutants contain poisons that adversely affect environments and the living animals inside of them. Although natural well being and security gatherings work to build attention to the threat contamination presents, if contamination proceeds at its present rate, the future impacts could crush to human populaces and the earth.
