Everyone is familiar with the paradox in which qualified graduates fresh out of college apply for a job but is unfortunately denied because they lack the experience. Yet how can they gain experience for a position if no one will hire them? In this situation, it may be more prolific to hire qualified individuals despite their lack of job experience. However, in some cases allowing inexperienced individuals to hold a position may be more detrimental than beneficial. For example, one of the most essential job positions in the country that requires innumerable amounts of experience is that of the President of the United States. Especially in this period of American political turmoil, the position of Presidency is on the line. With an alarming amount of disagreeable candidates in the 2016 Presidential elections, it is vital that the individual possesses experience in politics and in volunteer service. He/she must aim to serve his term for the betterment of the country and its citizens. Though foreign affairs, economic improvement, and domestic policies are essential in the President’s agenda, a concentration in the humanities is also just as important. A President experienced in extensive volunteer service will be conscious of the numerous issues plaguing our country, such as poverty and global warming, and will undoubtedly prioritize these problems to the same extent as the national budget or health care reform. Likewise, the occupier of the Oval Office must be able to inspire others to volunteer for the betterment of the nation and to do so, the President must also be an active volunteer himself/herself. For example, President Herbert Hoover is acclaimed for his humanitarian acts and yearning to be of service to others.
