"For far too long our society has undervalued the need for high quality and widely accessible education." (Barry Sanders, 2014) Quality education is a key factor for equality in society, it empowers people, develops our talents and helps us realize our potential. It is our human right obtain a quality education. (Unite, accessed 2017) What influences a high-quality education?
Parents are an integral part of a child's education. For this reason, parents must use their influence on what a child values to establish the significant importance of education. Furthermore, these teachers put up with these things to receive moderate compensation in salaries compared to their peers with similar degrees. At the same time, teachers are being challenged by students to understand the need for a particular concept as it relates to the real world. This challenge might be addressed more clearly by using immersive learning. Immersive learning brings together two or more academic fields in teams to create learning experiences. As a result, using immersive learning, the student sees firsthand how to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Teachers must be engaged with school administration to face and address these many challenges.
Another key point in children receiving a quality education is money. School districts are facing budget cuts at both federal and state levels. Administrations are balancing their budgets with electric bills, transportation and salaries with not much left to work with. Causing cuts in early childhood education programs, summer school, guidance consolers, extracurricular activities, arts, music and the list goes on. These cuts are being made to programs that seem to be a variable in an equation that makes it difficult to realize the impact they have on a quality education. My son Alex has consistently achieved better academic scores when he was busy.
