Social Justice is a double edge sword. On one side everyone is treated equally and fairly with sustainable life advantages. There is food, clean water, shelter, health care, education and a living wage adequate to support and improve families’ quality of life. On the other side, there is the reality of economics, war, prejudice, environment, poverty, and political influences. As long as there is corruption and greed these goals seem impossible to achieve. Food and clean water is a basic necessity of human life. Access to quality, adequate, affordable food and clean water should be a goal of every government. However, in many places that is not possible either due to drought or destitution. In some areas the government uses food to control the population. Many lives are lost due to starvation for no reason other than lack of government management. Affordable housing should be available to everyone. There are many opportunities to renovate buildings to accommodate housing. Programs that give the recipient the opportunity to participate in the process, such as Habitat for Humanity, need to be supported. This process gives people the pride of ownership. The expense and lack of funding is the main concern. A plan has to be made to find affordable clean housing.
Health Care is a basic human need and needs to mandatory. Everyone should be entitled to comprehensive health care, but how is that not only achieved, but also made affordable? There has to be more
When I was six years old I accepted Christ. I grew up in a Christian home and was given a Christian education. My faith has been a big part of my life. It has gotten me through the good, the bad and the ugly. There have been dry seasons in my faith, but even in those times God has remained faithful. Each day God is teaching me something new about who He is. He is continually growing me to be more like Him.
Social justice in counseling represents the process of reaching out to individuals with regard to the fair treatment of all. There are many aspects to consider within the interaction between counselor and client in order to provide the most fairest treatment available. Counseling professionals who are established in providing social justice in their framework focus upon the principles of harmony, access, equity, and participation when developing interventions and programmatic responses to the needs of their clients. The interventions and programmatic responses are designed to be comprehensive and preventive in nature.
A lack of affordable housing has resulted in an inability to obtain adequate, appropriate, and affordable housing; urban renewal applied federal funds to remove blighted areas. Many people live from paycheck to paycheck just to put a roof over their head and are one paycheck away from having no place to live. Huge expanses of houses were removed. Simply put, the housing need has thus been an
There are many concepts I feel very strongly about. One of this concepts include social justice for all. We did not get to choose our ethnicity, our gender, our place of birth, our parents, or our families economic standing, but despite this, all these factors greatly influence who we are and where we start in this world. While there is still much for me to explore in the USA, I also wish to go visit the places I always here people talk about. I grew up conflicting between my parents referring to anyone south of the US border as "roaches" while also being best friends with a first generation United States citizen whose parents came from Mexico. Long before this point, I have decided that my parents opinions were not going to effect my own,
The problems that arise from housing are numerous. Housing takes up more than half of all real property tax. Not only that, it’s also the largest issue in a family’s budget. The federal government spent $38 billion in preferential subsidies and $2 trillion on housing in total in the year 2006. Rigid zoning codes prohibit certain types of housing from being built. This prevents some citizens from being provided with homes that fit their budget and ads to the chronic problem of homelessness our communities face. Too many houses can crowd neighborhoods and make transit difficult. They can also obstruct view and, when foreclosed upon, lead to plummeting property values.
many people since the modern era. “This contribution traces succinctly the conceptual development of depressive bipolar disorders from Grace-Roman views, though the Enlightenment into the modern era(Davison,2006).” According to a recent study only 1% of people have a bipolar disorder and only 50% of people have a depression disorder. Mood Disorders afflict one out of five women and one out of ten men at some point in their lives. Also, according to a Clinical and Public Health Scope, a depression disorder is more common in women than in men. The tradition view states that more men than women will die earlier in age, because of having a mood disorder. Gerald
Acceptable affordable housing is lacking for low-income individuals and families. Without adequate housing, individuals find themselves struggling financially, and many
According to John F Kennedy, “All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talent.” Social justice is access to all things in our life, no matter our talents, our beliefs, morals and goals. According to Google, “social justice is justice in terms of terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society.” Everyone needs social justice in their life because everyone should be treated equal because everyone is unique in their own way. Not everyone is getting social justice in terms of education because of crumbling school systems, low income and rising college costs.
The purpose of this paper is to identify how the author’s place of employment, The International School at Mesa del Sol (TIS) recognizes social justice and equity, addresses the issues within the classroom or on campus, and serves the student through programs to eliminate the impact of social injustice and inequity. Ultimately, the author intents to reflect on the question: Is the school simply aware of the various social justice issues (i.e. poverty, racism, religion, etc) or does the school go that extra step, as suggested by Gorsky (2012) and initiate action and or policy change to eliminate the issue?
A social justice issue that has mostly impacted my life would be reproductive rights/health, because of how I was born and the struggles I went through growing up as an in vitro/gestational carrier baby. Other important social justice issues that I have taken a deep interest include human trafficking, violence against women, and wage discrimination. While interning for Senator Heidi Heitkamp I was able to work primarily on these specific issues. Not only do I have experience on these issues but I also have a strong desire to impact in a beneficial way on all of these issues, because I want to be a voice for women who are struggling at the hands of abuse or any form of discrimination and I want to work towards empowering women politically, socially,
What does Social Justice mean? Well in my opinion it is not as simple as I once thought it was. In today’s times it has gotten cloudy and disheartening for me to see the actions of others played out on our televisions or computers. So, I have asked myself: how do we, as Academic Advisors, treat others or how would we treat others? According to the Business Dictionary, social justice is, “the fair and proper administration of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be treated equally and without prejudice” (BusinessDictionary.com). I have seen a fair share of justice
Over the last eight weeks, we have visited and deeply discussed many topics that surround social justice in the classroom. These topics have ranged from social justice in the world to how to create a socially just classroom and everything in between. In class, there has been a few times where it has been uncomfortable because the topics can bring out many opinions in the room. Many people in the room shared their opinions, including me, which brought up many other discussions. In this essay, I will be discussing our navigations through the social justice issues that classrooms face by talking about the key points of our class throughout the last eight weeks.
Social justice and inclusion have become important parts of the modern world, especially within the Scottish education system. They allow pupils to reach their full potential and to become fully integrated whilst at school, regardless of background or disability. However these terms are ever changing and require a lot of thought and determination to be fully fulfilled within schools. This paper will look at the importance of social justice and inclusion as well as considering different views on the topics. It will also focus on the teacher’s role in achieving an inclusive environment within school and the implications for learning.
Social Justice is of the utmost importance to me and is one of the few things that I unrelentlessly fight for. Coming from a liberal family, I have been taught acceptance, inclusion and intersectionality my entire life, but I’m still striving to unlearn problematic behavior and ignorance everyday. I actively participate in local rallies against racism, sexism, and homophobia, all things that actively affect my life, as well as fighting injustices that don’t directly affect me. Due to this I often turning away from media, celebrities, friends, and even family who are blind to common injustices and who feed into systematic oppression. I strive to find people I can exchange ideas with to better our school, community, city, and even world. Accordingly,
Meaning: This theory is complex, to understand human behavior and their environment, social and emotional functions, this is part of social worker, ability to function and adapt the transaction in nature. The theory is based on strength and empowerment. This helps to reduce people’s need and problems, however, it makes them to active participants in shaping their own reality, and how they fit within or are excluded from societies in ways that both undermine their self-esteem or reduce their income.
