INTRODUCTION
Team building can be collectively termed for various types of activities used to enhance social relations and define roles within teams, which often involves collaborative tasks. It is very much distinct from team training, which is designed to improve efficiency, rather than interpersonal relations.
Many team-building exercises are aimed to expose and address the interpersonal problems within the group.[1]
These activities are intended to improve performance in a team-based environment.[2] The formal definition of team-building includes:
• aligning around the goals
• building effective working relationships among teammates
• reducing team members ' role ambiguity
• finding solutions to team problems collectively
For group-development activities in organizations team building is widely used.
Recent meta-analyses show that team-development activities, including team building and team training, improve both team 's objective performance as well as team 's subjective supervisory ratings.[1]
FOUR APPROACHES
Salas and his team have described four approaches to team building ie..:[3][4]
1. Setting Goal
This emphasizes on the importance of clear objectives of individual and team goals. Team members now become involved in action planning to identify ways to define success and failure and achieve goals. This is intended to strengthen motivation and encourage a sense of ownership. By identifying specific outcomes and tests of incremental success, the teams can
"High Noon" and The Most Dangerous Game both describe a sense of isolation. The movie, "High Noon" expresses isolation by showing visuals of a deserted town and an empty railroad. The book, The Most Dangerous Game, shows isolation by having the protagonist of the story working alone to stay alive. Although these plots have a similar theme and setting, their main characters and conflict are notably different.
Establish objectives together: Define performance objectives with the team and make sure that all team members understand the objectives and what actions will need to be taken to achieve them.
Team building exercises were engaged in to bring the team members together on a personal level. The exercises and the time together engendered greater loyalty, personal connections, appreciation for team mates, and common purpose. Genuinely caring for team members or co-workers should compel team members to always give their best in the interest of the
Having played a variety of team sports throughout my life, I saw a lot of parallels throughout the class work on team building between positive teamwork and success. Reading Five Dysfunctions of a Team and then applying what we learned from the reading into several team building exercise gave me a unique perspective on how to create and identify key team building skills.
A team is formed when a group of people come together to cooperatively, and collectively work together to accomplish a task or a goal. All members of the team are encouraged to contribute, and participate fully as each plays a crucial role to successfully accomplish
We knew that teamwork is all about being able to work smoothly and efficiently within a group. Doing this we draw on a number of other skills, the ability to encourage and inspire, to compromise and ignore our own ego, communication and other interpersonal skills such as negotiation, influence, advising and interpreting.
Team building is typically used in OD to loosen up an over-organized system that is too rigid and bureaucratic. In this case, team building was aimed at providing structure to an under-organized system.
Establish Goals: Teams need to be focused on their shared goals and production outcomes. Each member’s commitment to those goals is essential for success.
Team building is not something new. However, the ways that it is done today more often than not does not achieve its goals. The reasons for this are
Teambuilding activities and workshops strive for greater cooperation, better communication, and less dysfunctional conflict. Managers are accountable for knowing if team-building activities are effective. They need to run the four level evaluation models: reaction (how did the participants feel), learning (did the experience increase knowledge), behavior (did participants on the job behavior improve), results (did participants achieve better measurable results) (Kinicki, 2013).
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated the ability to work in a team-based environment, and I understand the importance of a good team within a professional and efficient workplace.
A project team can be developed by using effective communication, establishing trust among team members, managing conflicts in a constructive manner, and encouraging collaborative problem-solving. The main goal of team development is to help people work together more effectively to improve project performance (Schwalbe). This process is about creating an open, encouraging environment for your team and developing it into an effective, functioning, coordinated group (Heldman). This involves improving skills of team member performance in order to increase their ability to complete project activities; improving feelings of trust among team
What is team building? Team building is working with a group of people towards a common goal. One of the main issues identified was the lack comradely within Union Bank employees.
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
Teams have to devote energy to maintain and build team spirit. The team has to be efficient in all operations and accomplish all goals and objectives as one!
