The American dream has changed drastically thru our history. Back in the 1950 and 1960 the American dream was to have the house with the white picket fence and the 2 ½ kids. Now the dream for a lot of people is to be able to pay their bills and maybe have enough money to go out for a nice little dinner that you did not have to cook yourself. The American dream is dead, it is because the concept has changed from the idea that everyone can improve their life through hard work to the idea that everyone can become a millionaire through virtually no work. The United State at one point used to have everything you needed to make this dream happen. But since jobs have been moving over sees we have lost all of that. The American Dream is so …show more content…
But doing this, this gives the poor more jobs to do causing them to fall behind in other tasks making them poorer by the second. Even though the poor are the people whom do the most work in the world, "40% of Americas money goes to the rich while only 1% goes to the poorer population" (academic.udayton.edu). As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer widening the gap between the two more and more every day, this very second.
Celebrities and local millionaires own the world. They run the businesses and the passion that gives the poor jobs. So as much as the poor hate the rich, they end up working for them in the end, less likely to become them. This is a psychological truth that causes much stir among the poor and possibly some of the rich. As a rich person, you are less likely to make contact and accept that the poorer are around you. It's the same concept for the poor to the rich. It's hard to accept the truth, especially when it comes to terms with your social class. But to the rich, owning the world isn't an issue. The cement that should hold our society together is the supposed peace of mind that the government will give in the form of aid to the less fortunate. This financial assistance includes low cost living facilities, money for food, and most importantly, healthcare. Another hot issue on Capitol Hill is the funding of social security. It is my belief that social security should not be tampered with at all, because
Those who are members of the 1% have earned (or inherited) so much money, and for the most part they tend to not give back. Jamelle Bouie’s article “The Rich Really Are as Selfish as You Think” reveals the results of recent studies conducted by three political scientists. These studies declare that a majority of the “One Percenters” are satisfied with not only the inequality of society, but the working conditions of the middle-lower classes. Along with this, 40% of this group are in favor of a minimum wage increase, 32% are fans of universal health care, and only a mere 8% support a governmental jobs program for unemployed citizens (Bouie 1). With the general public now aware of these statistics, it is unlikely that the 1% will be winning any popularity contests soon—that is, as long as the other 99% is eligible to
The gap between the rich and poor in the United States is constantly growing, due to the fact that minimum wage is low for the poor but not for the rich. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. There is no gray area in this situation. According to A Project of The Institute for Policy Studies, “The top 0.1 percent is taking in over 184 times the income of the bottom 90 percent.” There
If helping the poor requires the ruin of the future world, then the poor should not be helped.
this is why one to two percent of the world ‘owns” 99% of the wealth, wealth is their god. Gold saves them, platinum births them, and diamonds promise them endless life. Their gods riches, rule the cowalt of man, the health of man, the education of man, the housing of man, and even the law of man, the love of money, wealth is the root of all evils. The Lor group also enjoy being worshipped by the poor their gods has given the god status. What they wear the poor also seek to wear, what they say the poor believe, where they live the poor dream of but can’t go. What they do the poor do likewise? The worse of all provident is the poor who worship the rich! Even the religious empires known that in this society- wealth I approval, so they seek to dress like, live like, and befriend the Lor group. They are so in love with this world riches until any massage about Jesus Christ return is a root issue with them. Their heaven is here on earth at the exploitation of the poor. The Lor group dishonors the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the
Unfortunately, this fact is so true of our society today, but Yancey goes on to show how Jesus makes an extra effort to reach out to he poor. He gives a list, which he got from another writer, on the advantages of being poor. This list really made an impact on me. It showed me how I need to be more open to what God has to say, and not so involved with the materialistic and secular views of today. I need to focus on what God has planned for me, and not make my focus to be what other people think of me. “Strength, good looks, connections, and the competitive instinct may bring a person success in a society like ours, but those very qualities may block entrance to the kingdom of heaven” (Yancey 114).
Once someone is in poverty, it is difficult to mobilize them to a higher class. When someone lacks skills, they are unable to obtain a stable job. An unstable jobs leads to low income and lack of access to medical care and education. Since a member of the working poor cannot access education to build skills, they are right back at the beginning of the cycle. While these 21st century issues make it difficult to mobilize members of the lower class, the issues are far less horrific than the conditions that faced the poor during the Industrial
So, that’s the major issue. The major issue is how do we create an economy that works for all of our people rather than a small number of billionaires, and the second issue, directly related, is the fact that as a result of the disastrous Supreme Court decision on Citizens United, we now have a political situation where billionaires are literally able to buy themselves elections and candidates. Let’s not kid ourselves. That is the reality right now.
Just as To no Chujo stated, many people have no interest in learning about the poor which leads to a lack of knowledge about the lower class. This may be one reason that many people look down upon poor
It can be seen that there are a multitude of reasons that the poor tend to remain poor. Reasons ranging from the spending patterns of the poor to the health and nutrition of the poor all attribute to the creation of a poverty cycle that seemingly condemns the poor to being poor. Obviously this isn’t a rule of thumb but rather an accurate observation, it is not to say that the poor can’t become affluent but rather the conditions and environment that surrounds those who are poor severely impedes their ability to earn an income and move over the poverty
Poverty is a vicious cycle that inevitably affects future generations. By breaking the cycle of poverty with education, better government
While such moves might seem sensible, they might not actually improve household welfare or firm profitability. A first possibility is that the
In America, the population is a soaring 3.26 million. The average family size is four people per household; two parents and two children. At the moment, half of the population, 1.63 million, is nearing old age. From this population, I will subtract 1.14 million as 70% of the population dies before reaching the prime age of 65, the required age to gain the benefits of Social Security, leaving .49 million. From this number I will further subtract .05 million, as 10% of the upper-class, 65+, can afford their expenditure after retirement, leaving .44 million people who reap the benefits of Social Security, live in emotional trauma, and empty the bank accounts of American citizens. This measly, sick 13.5% of the total 3.26 million is the cause of depression, broken marriages, and, most of all, national debt in our beloved nation. For these people I propose an easy and painless
While money is obviously not an issue, the rich are not immune to personal problems such as the death of a loved one, or natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires or floods. The poor have to face these same problems. No one can be O.K. with their family member dying, or losing possessions in earthquakes or fires, but everyone will go through something like this at one point in their life. This makes them similar.
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer. Essentially this is the view that Marx and Engels had on social economic status. There is a polarization of classes, in that there is a division of groups, the rich and the poor. However not much has changed today. The rich help the rich, and the poor in a sense also help the rich, but no one seems to care to help the poor. Even in times of natural catastrophes the poor undoubtedly suffer the most with little help from anyone. The state only helps the ruling class and protects big corporations.
The sad thing is many impoverished people are poor for no other reason than bad
