The Importance Of Turning Point In My Life

When given this topic, I grappled with the decision about what to write because I found that all the turning points in my life were incredibly personal. I chose a topic that happened to occur about three weeks ago. This turning point has been ongoing and I finally cemented it. Because this is so personal, I trust that this information will remain confidential.

I was eleven years old when my parents sat me down and told me they were getting a divorce. This had been coming for a long time, as I knew they were exceedingly unhappy. My father had been terrorizing my family with verbal abuse for as long as I could remember. My mom and my brother are the type to avoid conflict at all cost but, they have the most lovely personalities I have ever encountered. My father had easy control over them; I was the problem. I am very much like my father, fiery temper and all. When I was about eight, I looked my father right in the eye and told him not to speak to my mother that way. I was the only one in my family who ever spoke up for anyone and boy, did that make him livid.

I would also like to point out that although we fought constantly, I loved my Dad. I used to wait for him to come home from work every night but sometimes he would never come home. He worked everyday except Sunday and usually my mom would have to drag him out to dinner or the movies with us. He seemed very uninterested in the family aspect of his life and because of this, my mother became a stay at home mom after
