I like the way you think! I think by writing down your thoughts you can gather them and use specific words in a Boolean search; which will l help with the results of your search. Have you ever used the Boolean search? I have never and really liking it! I agree that the results with the most credible results is a huge factor when writing a research
Once you have selected your research question, review the materials in the text that can help you get started, and then begin conducting outside research using the online library, the Internet, the Wall Street Journal websites, the Economist, and so forth. From your research, create an annotated bibliography. (An annotated bibliography includes the full reference in APA format and a paragraph explaining the value of the source to your research.) This will help you both in organizing your research, and in generating your reference page at the end of the project.
Chapter 19 of Everyone’s An Author explains to the readers that it’s extremely important for you to do research on a topic. Research is searching for and gathering information, usually to answer a particular question or problem. Also, research begins as a kind of treasure hunt that provide you a stunning opportunity to investigate a subject that you care or wonder about. Finding a topic is one of the most important part for the process of your researching. In order to start your research effectively, you should find a topic that fascinates you, consider your rhetorical situation, and do some background research.
nature of the research approach calls for a means of data collection and analysis of findings
Research can be defined as the search for knowledge, or as any systematic investigation, with an open mind, to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems, prove new ideas, or develop new theories. Research can be divided into different steps in order to understand the whole process more in depth. The first step towards conducting research is to observe. Consistst of the subject area of ones interest and following that subject area to conduct subject related research. The subject area should not be randomly chosen since it requires reading a vast amount of
The biggest thing I noticed in the process of doing research was how much time it took. I don’t usually amass 10 sources I usually only pick 5 to 6. When I do pick less sources I use a lot of information from them. I don’t just pick and choose. I think it is important to have a lot of different sources to support your argument but I also think quality over quantity is important as
I conducted my research by first thinking of what I wanted my topic to be on. I didn’t want it to be a topic that is common because I want my project to be something unique, not something
Great post, I agree with you that the four types of research studies are needed in research. These four types of studies help the researchers to be more engage in the purpose of their study. To be honesty, I did not have a clue of what descriptive, explanatory, predictive and prescriptive were or how they play a part in research. My understanding has now increased about research purpose.
Creating a research path is a very big step in composing your paper. Talking to people who are knowledgeable on the topic is a great way to help you get started on the right track. You can also use credible online sources to help you
My research question is “How safe are the students from sexual assault on UIUC campus?” At first, I used basic key terms in a google search like “Sexual assault”, “UIUC”, and “campus safety.” One of the first articles I cam up with was by The Daily Illini, the student newspaper.
The first step in generating research related to a client oriented research question is to begin searching for articles related to a client oriented research question that will help logically answer or provide evidence directed towards a research question. The search process strategy I used was, the bottom-up strategy. Using this strategy, I searched for all research that pertained to my research question. After, finding as much research as possible, I began to read and critique the information provided in the articles. Once, I found the most logical articles that related to my research question, I was able to decide how I wanted to use them in my research to show evidence-based practices relating to my research question. To begin this process, a researcher would use logical search terms to search databases. It is important not to limit research by just “relying on the “magic” of the computer” (Rubin & Babbie, 2014, p. 165). For example, it is important to take advantage of advanced searches when searching for research and articles on databases in order to, “specify a set of words, indicating that all must appear in an article-or just some of them” (Rubin & Babbie, 2014, p. 165). This being said, it is helpful to use Boolean operators to narrow database searches or
My research question of where do nightmares comes from, and how do they affect people, is still a good question for me to be asking. I haven’t run into many issues with trying to find information about it. The sources that I have collected are all very useful for multiple reasons. Some of them are to help with general information about things that I know, but now everyone may know. Some of the sources are to help directly argue the question of where do they come from. Lastly, some of them help get into how they affect people. I know that I will be using a lot more sources as time goes on. But for right now this is a great start with the research. My research isn’t complete, but with what has been collected, I am able to produce the rough outline.
The strategies that was most helpful to me creating my research question was the strategies the Yavapai students described. I chose a topic that most interest me and it’s something that I’m really passionate on learning about. I feel like I can find a bunch of information that will help me write a great research report that helps me answer my research question. One strategy that wasn’t very helpful was thinking or daydreaming for a while to see if I could come up with anything. Doing this strategy didn’t help me at all it just mead me waste time and forget about working on my assignment. Im glad that I tried these strategies out so I know what works and doesn’t work for me when I need to think of a research
In the beginning of my research I had trouble thinking of a topic, I brainstormed and jotted down topics that are of my interests and topics that are currently going on I then decided to choose my topic on free public college education. In the beginning of my search for articles on free college education, I had trouble looking for the right articles I mostly received results that were not related to free public college education and this frustrated me. I then tried to be as specific as possible when it came to the keywords I then used Boolean searching, this gave me more relatable sources on my topic. Boolean searching is what helped me the most when it came to looking for articles that are useful for my
Research is a form of systematic inquiry. It sets out to answer questions through assessing, summarizing and drawing conclusions from what are often very large amounts of information.
In addition, (Blakstad, 2008) discusses the “research process “and defines it as the step by step procedures of developing one’s research”. Tuner (2009) indicates that the availability of resources requirements is major factors to consider when selecting research questions. Sauro (2013) discussion of the research process provides further details on the factors that contribute to the successful research question selection.
